2 weeks notice?? You decide!...
So I'm working in a chiropractor's office right now as the receptionist. I basically do EVERYTHING there and everyone else is completely and utterly lazy. No matter how hard I work and how above and beyond I go for them, I always get criticized and basically told my work is never good enough. I also have pretty much dropped out of college (I'm down to only 2 online courses) because I work so many hours for him that I don't have time to do my school work full-time. I really want to go back to school full-time and get my bachelor's degree in Business Management and I also want to get my certificate in gourmet cooking and catering. Well, I recently got a job with another company and I start in 2 weeks...I'm really excited about it and cannot wait to put my current job behind me. Though the pay is a little less than my job now, the hours are better and the people are much friendlier. It's also closer to where I live too.
Anyway, I gave my boss my 2 weeks notice letter today and he got really upset and called me a "b*tch" to my face! Now my question is....do I stay the rest of my two weeks or basically go in tomorrow, collect my belongings, and leave?
I felt very uncomfortable when he went off on me and called me that...and it makes me very much dread the next two weeks. I cried the whole day at work and even when I got home tonight because of how terrible he made me feel. After how professional I've been the entire time I've been there and how I busted my butt for them, he said that to me?!

i wouldn't go in. i'd have told them to shove it the minute they called me that.

collect your things and tell them you'll be back (on the normal payday) to collect your check.

You poor thing! No one deserves to be treated like that. You just have to weigh the options. Ask yourself - can you make the next two weeks without a paycheck and will you need this jerk of a man as a reference in the future?

Oh, and would he give you a good reference??

Buh bye, NOW.

He's no kind of reference among other things. Move on to greener pastures and chock it up to a learning experience.
Ahhh...don't you feel better?~*Darlene*~

I honestly think even if I stayed and pretended it didn't happen, that he still would give me a terrible reference anyway.
I think I'm going to do it....just be gutsy, go in in my normal, everyday clothes tomorrow morning, gather my things, and tell them I quit right then!

Are you starting the other job in 2 weeks because that's when it's available?? or because of wanting to give notice at your current job?? Because if you can get in there quicker I would.
Also I'd contact another doctor and find out where you can file a report against his behavior. That is abuse and also harassing w how they have acted toward you. I very much doubt you are the first and neither will you be the last. Regardless if you leave tomorrow you still need to file this.

Yea, he doesn't sound as if he would give a great reference. Do remember that it may be a month until your next payday. Your new employer may take two to three weeks before you get a paycheck.
Just try to remain as professional as possible when you go in tomorrow to collect your things. It anyone asks why you are leaving before the two weeks, just tell them politely that it is what you need to do right now. You never know what can happen years from now.
Keep your head up and as you walk out the door keep smiling!! Good for you for getting out of there!

If you are thinking of reporting him, as the above poster mentioned (and I agree with her - I think you should), it's the chiropractic board you would report to.
I once reported a chiropractor to them because, during a negotiation of his billing, he called one of our attorneys a "little skank." He didn't get in major trouble, but he got a letter of reprimand from them and that was enough for us!

You were abused and yes I would quit. If you are at all concerned for your safety or even if you are not, take someone with you. I would not want you to get hurt. His kind of behavior in the workplace concerns me. Please keep us posted.

Report the man to the Board. That behavior is unprofessional, to say the least. As to whether or not to quit immediately, that depends on your tolerance level: tolerance of harassment, tolerance of no paycheck, etc. But we sure couldn't blame you for gathering your things and resigning on the spot. What a *BEEEP*

I'd definately report him and I can pretty much assume you wouldnt be getting any reference from him but would you honestly like to use him? I dont think so.
Also if you quit vs giving notice - does it differ down there? Will you still get your last 2 wks' pay?
I hope you can start your new job sooner
