I Am So Insulted!
So, we get our raises in work this week and I seriously feel like they were such a slap in our faces. I would have rather they told us no raises due to the economy.
Here's the deal:
I have been with this company for 12 years with an exemplory record and I got...... .08/hr!!! :surprise: Can you believe that???? Our shift leader only got .10/hr raise and he's been here for 18 years.
I am just stunned! Really, wouldn't you just be completely insulted?

I am sorry that happened to you, I remember I got a 7 cents raise once and the manager telling me acted like I should have known or been excited because it went into effect before she told me and she thought I would have noticed in my last paycheck. I just smiled and said I hadn't noticed, but I would check my paystub. I wanted to say..."so sorry that I didn't notice a few extra dollars per paycheck, now I'm rich!"
They don't give raises where I work currently, they say they use the cost of living raises to adjust our health insurance rates, so we pay less, but we never do because health insurance goes up so often. I guess if they didn't deflect the rising cost of health care, our premiums would go up even more. It's not really a win situation for me and my co-workers though, we don't get a raise and we have to pay more for health insurance! Feels like a bum deal to us!

Yes, I would be upset...not sure if I'd be insulted, but I would be angry. On the up side if you work 40 hrs a wk, it adds up to $3.20...if you multiply that by the 2080 work hours in a year (not counting overtime) it is $166.40. Which amounts to more than the cost of living raise they gave anybody collecting social security.
Who knows how the powers that be figure out what to give as a raise. The smallest raise my hubby ever got where he worked was .25 per hour and that was during a really slow year for the company...but, his company passed out raises twice a year too. In addition to the raise they also gave an extra nickel for each year of service up to 20 years.
If you participate in a 401(k) program perhaps you should channel that raise into your 401(k), that way eventually it will amount to something."Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon

I think they should have said 'sorry, we can't afford raises this year' but perhaps you are in a union or have a contract that provides for cost of living raises and they had to give you raises??? I dunno but yeah, I'd have been a little hacked.

No, I am not in a Union. I work for a car rental agency that "only" made a 4th qtr profit of $212 Million last year. In addition to this they have stopped matching any 401K contribution.
Oh well, as insulted as I am, it's done. Guess I'll have to try hard not to spend that increase all in one place! LOL

That's horrible. I'm so sorry. I agree.
It would have been better to give no
raises then to insult you this way.

This happened once at a place I worked at. A very well known place. Anyway support staff ended up getting a 3% raise to match cost of living but salaried staff basically go squat. My poor boss figured her raise at $.02 an hour. Mind you she was working on corporate initiatives and way to much overtime. Grant it they let everyone know raises were not going to be much, but man, I would have been really upset to have basically nothing for a raise. Especially if I had given 200%, which is what my boss did. She wasn't very happy about it but I really could not blame her.

Ahhhh...I can totally relate to this! I worked for a car rental agency for 16 years....we got raises like that every now and then...never could understand it. It was very depressing. Especially after 16 years, I would see what new hires would make after just one year.
At times, I thought I would be better off quiting and coming back as a "NEW HIRE" The starting pay kept going up and up to attract "quality" people, but it seemed they never rewarded the loyal employees.
But I loved my job, and would be still there if we had not moved out of state.
Hang in there! Try to count your blessings, in the fact that you have a job, and are not one of many people out there struggling to find one
