would you rather have....
a) a job you enjoy that pays well, but has bad hours (nights, weekends, holidays)
OR
b) a job you have never tried, but think you would enjoy with awesome hours, but bad pay.

neither...
working only nights and weekends... would have to make me switch my whole life around...
working doing something I've never done before and bad pay ?
no way to either.
There are other choices you know, like getting some training or a degree to get a job that appeals to you WITH decent pay.

Always take something interesting over something that is boring. The rewards of pay rapidly go away, leaving you only the resentment about the days lost with your family.
Do what you love and you'll be rewarded.

I'd have to say I would pick (a), because I already enjoy that job and since I enjoy the job I am going to assume I enjoy the people I work with as well.

I have always instilled in my children that you MUST enjoy the profession that you choose, regardless of the pay. You can make $100,000.00 and be miserable or you can make much less and be comfortable with what you have.

I totally agree!! Between the 2 choices I would absolutely go with b!!
This has been a huge topic of conversation at my house lately!! Dd is a junior in college and we are always telling her to find something she loves and not to get stuck being miserable just for a paycheck!!

guess it depends on the specific choices -
Money isn't the most important thing in the world, I'd rather spend time with my family.... but I could sacrifice a bit of time in order to better secure a future with my family -Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Pets Die

Hubby and I just had this discussion.
HE would take the good paying job that he hates, while I would take the low paying "fun" job.

This has been interesting. I like how everyone is all over the board. Remember the first job with good pay in ENJOYABLE, not hated.

I would take the job with better circumstances and lesser pay. Over the course of an 8 year bout with chronic illness that left me unable to work, DH and I really struggled with paying the bills. Now that I'm well enough to go back to work part-time, I've passed on a lot of stressful, more demanding jobs that had better pay in favor of lower-paying jobs that would allow me to have the quality of life DH and would like me to have given my limitations. Money ain't everything!

For me it's about hours. I want to be home for my family. Since my kids are in school all day, I wouldn't want to work evenings and weekends. Also because we made the choice to have the kids active in sports, and as of next fall all 4 are in ice sports, it's a commitment. Bringing them to practices, games, workshops IS a part-time job in itself. So those hours wouldn't do it.
I'd take the better scheduling over the icky hours, and keep looking to see if I can find something I enjoy that would have better hours.
But since I have 1 at home yet, I created my own job. Something that I plan to continue as I am good at it, usually enjoy it, everyone has bad days. And would have a hard time getting equivalent pay elsewhere.

I would go with A. I'm assuming that the hours aren't excessive, just inconvenient.

I'd take A, and then negotiate for a better shift.
