Christmas morning we all get up to see if santa had his food and drink the night before and to see whatever he left, while the kids play DH makes a huge fried breakfast, rashers, sausage, eggs, beans, mushrooms, black pudding and white pudding. after we have troughed all that then we all sit round the tree for present opening.

In the evenings we would eat - if we have any space left LOL, Mice pies and brandy cream. In the last few years the TV will not go on as we have huge scrabble/monopoly tournaments
What are rashers and mice pie?

Then everyone goes to church at midnight to celebrate the birth of Christ.
After church, the city is swarmed with people, DJ's playing music, steel-drums playing pan melodies, lots of dancing in the streets and meeting up with friends/family. It is very noisy and festive.

We usually get home just before dawn to breakfast of boiled eggs, spicy sauteed codfish, boiled spinach infused with okra, tomatoes and lettuce.
How do you stay up all night!?!

My family on my mom's side is Slovenian and so on Xmas day we have Slovenian sausage as an appetizer cut into pieces with a sweet n spicy horseradish dip. We also have potica. Potica is a type of rolled dessert bread but it is also used as sandwich bread with ham (so you get the sweet and the salty). The traditional potica is walnut with spices and sugar, but I really like the cream cheese. I made the cream cheese potica once - it's a lot of work -lots of layers, etc. Now I order it from a bakery.
