Christmas already in stores?
I was watching GMA this morning and they had a segment on saying that stores were rolling out there Christmas decorations and gifts already. They said they were hoping to get people in the Christmas spirit early so that they would start spending. What do you think? It seems to get earlier and earlier each year. I, myself, do not like it. I love Christmas but it is getting so that I get bored with it and just want it to be over now and I think it is because it is started so early.

i agree it does seem like it happens earlier each year.
and you know what... it makes me SAD!!
i dont like feeling imposed on or obligated to do something I dont want to.
What happened to xmas/yule being something special?
I think it's offensive that the meaning behind xmas/yule (be it religious, spiritual or simply a matter of family, pride, love, enjoyment) has been lost in commercialism.
On tv, in stores, on the radio... our kids or inundated (and we are too!) with the meaning of holidays as "GET ME!".
Now it's up to us of course to teach our kids otherwise... and that's fine.
But really... what happened to the simple Yuletide traditions??

I so agree with you, the Christmas season starts way to early and that alone makes it last way to long. I also have to wonder what happened to Thanksgiving? It seems like we go straight from Halloween to Christmas with no thought what so ever to the Thanksgiving holiday. I think its sad that they get in such a hurry to push the holidays that make big money for them that they forget some of the others. Its awful that even before Halloween has come and gone they are already putting out the Christmas stuff. Its wrong, and there is no reason to start the Christmas holiday before the Halloween and Thanksgiving season is over!

I think it's nice for those who would prefer to spend a little money at a time as opposed to trying to purchase all decorations and gifts in the short time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Just because you buy it now doesn't mean you have to use it now. I like to have all my Christmas shopping done BEFORE Thanksgiving so that I can enjoy the holiday season without as much stress.

I've only seen Halloween decorations up so far. I could make a trip to the mall this weekend and see how it is there. I don't think it's going to make a bit of a difference when they start putting things out because right now, people are afraid to spend money that they believe may not be there tomorrow.

I was at the store yesterday... yup... Christmas decorations for sale.
I don't mind the decor being sold... what bothers me is Dec 26th the Valentine candy will come out... so much for clearance sales
We have a chain here called "The Christmas Tree Shop" that basically sells stuff 'at reduced prices' (some can be found elsewhere for less, but that's the idea of the store) and of course, they do sell Christmas stuff year round.
I honestly think the stores are putting the stuff out earlier and earlier each year to avoid the 'clearance shoppers'. If everything is sold before and nothing after, then chances are, if you really wanted it... you will have to pay full price.
My Yule shopping is done... finishing the knitting on some... and already working on making a tree skirt for my tiny tree (makes the presents look like more when your tree is only 30" tall
).

I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

I bought some really cute ornaments at the dollar tree yesterday. It's weird that it's out this early though, not used to buying halloween decor and ornaments at the same time lol.

I am very happy to see the Christmas decor coming out now. I start Christmas shopping in July every year and I am almost completely finished shopping. I need to get wrapping paper and a few decorations that will be given as gifts a.s.a.p. because I will be taking all of my gifts home at the end of the month. I live away from my entire family. I am going home for a visit and will be able to save money on postage by taking things with me. I leave everything with my parents and they will distribute at Christmas. My in-laws who live on the West Coast will be coming to visit for Thanksgiving. I will have their gifts and my niece and nephew gifts that they will take home to CA. for me. There by saving me tons in postage. So I for one love that I can be done before Thanksgiving. Christmas is my most favorite time of the year. I sing Christmas songs year round! I know, I'm crazy, but it cheers me up. I will be heading to Walmart tonight to check out their stash!!!!
