Fleece blankets for Christmas:: Question
Morning all!
I was thinking of making a few fleece tie blankets for gifts this Christmas. My question is..what do you think is a good price for fleece? Do you know if there is ever a deal on Black Friday at JoAnn Fabrics?
I have been pricing the fleece and it seems like it is going to cost me around $15.00 to make the blanket using a solid fleece piece as well as a pattern piece. I'm wondering whether it is worth it, since I may be able to actually find a blanket for cheaper than this price.
Has anyone ever bought fleece from Walmart? Is it any good?
Thanks!!

I bought all of my fleece from walmart and I had no problems with it. My family uses their blankets all the time and they love it. I found they like them the most because I made it.

I've bought good and bad fleece from both Wal-Mart and fabric stores. My idea of bad is the kind that doesn't have much give. I've found that type doesn't hold up as well. The slightly thinner, streatchier fleece seems to hold up the best no matter where you buy it.

3 things it depends on... where you live, what store you go to, what type of fleece you wanna buy.
on sale:
for sports team fleece, i've found good deals around 6$/yd.
for solids (way cheaper!) around 3 or 4$ per yard
and designs/special characters (childrens) around 4 to 5$ a yard
now, some places will take a coupon (if you have one for the store) on top of the sale... makes it a lot cheaper.
other stores won't allow coupons on sale items.
but check some websites for around where you live for coupons.
hope this helps.

I made one for DH a while ago, but because I used specialty fleece (not from Walmart), it cost me about $30 (including tax) because I made a large one. It was totally worth it, though... he loves it and finally has a penguin-themed blanket (he collects blankets).

I made two last year for gifts but at the cost it took to make them, I'm not sure they were worth it, altho the recipients love them.

I bought a print at JoAnns and a solid from there as well. I think I paid $15 for 4 yards total. I think they are totally worth it as my family sits snuggled in them all the time.

For me, Walmart had better prices on fleece.

I was on the mailing list under my maiden name but didn't use the coupons too often when I mentioned to the clerk that I needed to use them or get taken off the automatic list, she had me fill out another form. I now get the 40% off coupons in my maiden name AND my married name. Go figure!

I figure with enough fleece, i could do it.

This is pretty much the pricing I get also. I will look for the 40% coupons for JoAnns and see if I can get them cheaper, but I doubt that will happen..fleece is too popular around the holidays. I'm going to try and scope out the Black friday ads when they come out. I think there was a deal last year for fleece and also one for flannel. I don't mind venturing out early that morning... its a family tradition.

Does any one have the pattern to go by on this type of blanket? I want to make my Christmas gifts this year and I know people would enjoy them. I know this is proably a simple pattern, but would like to have something to go by.
