BIG Changes ... again!
We had planned to move the holidays around once already because the Old Man has to work Christmas... we were going to to have a grazing feast on the 24th and the 3 of us would open our presents that night so he can see DD open them... and wake up super early the 25th so he can see her open the Santa gift before he had to go to work and she leaves for my ex's at noon.
NOW -- he found out last night he doesn't have the 24th or 25th off. DD doesn't know yet, not sure how she will handle it. He did manage to go in a little later (9am instead of 7... but he would still need to leave here around 8:15) on the 25th.
It will be DD and I -- in some ways it can be good. Maybe we will get 'dressy' and go out somewhere to eat and see a movie, just the two of us. Maybe we will put on our jammies and watch the Bass/Rankin classics...
I don't want her to feel jipped out of her holidays. She's 8, too old to not notice and too young to understand.
Money really isn't too big of an obstacle (because we finally have some
) and there really isn't anything too expensive around here that we could do in only a few hours.
I also don't want the Old Man feeling totally excluded from any holiday fun... even if he isn't here...
He knew yesterday morning that he had to work the 24th...but didn't tell me until this morning because we went out with his co-workers for someone's send off last night and he was afraid I would stab his boss with the umbrella from my drink or something
Not that I would have done that of course
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

Could you get it all done if you woke up at 6 a.m. on the 25th? That way you would have two hours as a family to open everything. Good luck. Oh and, I agree, you are a very funny lady! I always look forward to your posts!

As someone who grew up with divorced parents, as well as divorced grandparents, I have celebrated Christmas as early as mid December and sometimes even into January. She is probably old enough to understand the situation. I think that it would be great to include your husband in some of the gift openings on Christmas morning, but I bet your daughter would love the time alone with you, also. A movie and dinner out is likely a big deal for an 8 year old-there is a movie called Bedtime Stories coming out on Christmas day, it is a family movie. Have fun, make your own memories. My cousin has started a tradition where they take their kids bowling on Christams Eve, and they love it.
