    Question Salvation Army Info Needed

If you donate to the Salvation Army at the Red Kettles are there requirements in how or what you give?

Meaning can you only give cash money bills or checks?
I looked on the site to find this info but found nothing specific.

In addition to the other ways we give to charity at this time
of year I heard that the Salvation Army was really struggling
this year with the amount of people in need increasing so
    rapidly.

We have a change jar that we regularly throw all of our
change in and I was going to donate the whole jar to the
Red Kettle but was told by the person working there that they
    did not accept change.

    Has anyone else experienced this?
I know I can take the change to a change counter or such
but I found this a little shocking since times are what they
    are.

    TIA

I don't know about 'not accepting change'... but I do know that there is a 'hand-off' policy here for the bell ringers. The buckets are padlocked and they do not have the key. When people give money (and yes, I've given change and seen others do it too) they (the people giving the money) have to put the money in the hole themselves.

Did you try to hand them a jar of change?

I put coin change in the Kettle every time I pass by one. They just say thank you and Merry Christmas. I don't think anyone has ever looked at what was put in.

There was a story on the news that a Salvation Army Kettle in Kansas found a rare coin in their kettle worth 1,000 dollars.

No I didn't. I wanted to ask before I brought the heavy jar
with me. Glad I asked first. My husband was really surprised.
We were thinking money is money. You'd think they would
accept anything they got. Guess not. :comg:

Was it one of the new debit card kettles they are trying?

    Maybe the ringer was confused?

You could also donate your kettle change to the Salvation Army directly by dropping it off there. They might want it counted if you were wanting a tax receipt.

I don't think that person had a clue what they were talking about. They accept change I have always had the girls put quarters in. Money is money , it all adds up. Think they meant to say that they can't take the money it has to be put in the bucket.

No it was the regular Red Kettle. He seemed a little insulted
that I asked. I have donated before and never had this
    problem.

I totally agree. I think I'm going to deposit it in my checking
account and just drop a check in. But I am really surprised
by this. Maybe it was just this particular person. :ceek1:
