An Interesting Question Now That Christmas
is over.
ForHISglory reminded me of this mental exercise with the question about your kids' favorite Christmas gifts.
Ask any adult male what his favorite Christmas gift of all time was and 9 times out of 10 he will answer with something from his childhood. (Think "A Christmas Story" and the Red Ryder BB gun.)
Ask any adult female the same question and 9 times out of 10 it will be something she received as an adult, usually from a boyfriend, husband, or one of her children.
I'm not sure why this is so, but it usually works out that way. Anyway, it's fun to try at New Years' Eve parties.

That is interesting... dh and I were just discussing our favorite Christmas gifts after seeing one of those commercials where the kid is trying to convince his adult self that the Atari is his best Christmas memory, not the new car he just got.
Anyway, I asked hubby his fave and sure enough it was Atari. I however could not really pinpoint a specific gift as my favorite, instead all I could think of were the feelings associated with Christmas and memories of waking up early or finding the perfect gift for someone. I honestly can't really remember any of my gifts from childhood even though I know they were good gifts.
Which just goes to show that Dr. Suess was right- Christmas doesn't come from a store.

I agree with elphie, for me I can't pinpoint a favorite gift, but I love the feelings of Christmas. I remember being little and wanting to sleep next to the tree in the hopes of seeing Santa. My parents let me fall asleep there and then they moved me.
If you asked Dh, he would probably think of some thing that he liked.

My favorite present was an electric organ that I got one year. I played that thing so much that my dad yelled at me to go outside I was driving him nuts! LOL guess I wasn't as good as I thought I was LOL

I don't remember any of the specific gifts I've recieved either. I take that back, I do remember getting a pink boom box with a tape player, that was awesome when I was in late grade school.
I also rememeber getting a gift from my aunt. She took (what I can only guess was) ALOT of time wrapping it. She cut out paper and glued things on, well, the box ended up looking like a penguin with a hat and scarf. I honestly do not remember what was in the box, but I remember the box!
So those are what I do remember, but honestly, I don't think I could tell you what the best gift I ever recieved was, becuase I don't remember most of them!

Best gift I ever got was DH (then my BF) stepping off the plane after a long work trip to Malaysia, two days before Christmas.
When we got home, before he showered and slept off the jet-lag, he gave me a gold necklace he'd brought back. I love that necklace. It's the only girly thing he's ever given me that I didn't pick out myself.
Best childhood gift was the Tonka backhoe and dumptruck. My dad took them away after I built a speed bump in our gravel driveway that summer.
