Default Gifts (2009) What do you have already?

    I love clearances!

I called my neighbor today, just so she could 'officially hate me'. I was wrapping gifts... for Yule/Christmas '09.

Already bought most of the gifts DD would be giving --

Aunt & Uncle, Godfather & DW, and Godmother &DH -- Martha Stewart tree shaped candles (orig. 7.99) on sale for $1.99

SPEd teacher - Martha Stewart pillar candle (orig. 5.99) on sale for $1.49
3rd grade teacher (whomever it is) - smaller candle (orig 3.99) on sale for .99

Daddy - vibrating slippers (orig 19.99) on sale for $5

I have a few items stashed away for DD and the Old Man as well... I'll get to listing them soon.

What have you set aside for gifts this year?

I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

Ok..FV is rubbing off on me and I am loving it!! I have NEVER been able to say I had anything ready for Christmas the following year in Jan.

    But I have bought.

2 dirty santa gifts for work
Scarf set..reg...8.00 got it for 3
Christmas tree skirt...15.00 got it for 2.75
plus 9 coffee mugs @ .25 cents apiece. I always try to pick up a little something for the ladys at work

Got 4 pair of Santa socks for .75 each. DD can give them to her friends.

Got my SIL a scarf set

    Also bought 4 Christmas wreaths..
One I am fixing for Dirty Santa at my sisters and the others I am making and donating to a local Charity that holds an auction every year to raise money for children

Seems like there is something else that I am forgetting..

I don't have one thing put away and I'm very happy about that, here's why. Every year I shop early to save money and every year I run out at the last minute and add something to each gift because I always feel that it's not enough. This year I have promised myself to only purchase gift cards (I'll use my credit card points) for all my nieces and nephews. It will save me loads in shipping costs plus I won't even have to leave my house to buy them! I am also going to do the bulk of my shopping on Black Friday because of the great deals. My two pre-teen kids never know what they want until the last minute so I'm going to stop trying to guess just to buy stuff early. I always have to run out on Christmas Eve to get their "must have's" so why bother shopping early? I have to say that this new attitude of mine will be very hard to achieve but I'm going to give it my best shot! Good luck to all of you too. It is my own lack of self control that keeps me from shopping early. You go girlfriend's!!!

Great job everybody! I do look for deals throughout the year, but since we've cut our list back dramatically, I don't have as much to buy.

I have my best friend's gift so far ( native american T-shirt $5)
thats it. I don't buy for many. So, I'll keep an eye out at the flea markets and such to see if I find something for some others.
Sounds like you all got some great deals.

I haven't officially tagged anything for Christmas 2009 yet, but I am working on it. I have $60 in Amazon gift cards I'm going to start shopping with. Got the whole $60 for turning in points at Mypoints & Winster.

I found some really pretty Christmas brooches on sale at the outlet mall on Sunday, so I picked up several of those. I don't have anything else yet, but I am being more aware of potential gifts than I was last year.

I typically just keep my ears open throughout the year and pick up things as people mention them, if they are things I think won't be purchase right away.

I couldn't wrap them now, or I'd totally forget what each thing was!

Kinda boring of me, but I won't buy a lot of gifts until close to Christmas 2009:
    • Teachers and librarians get chocolates we buy as a fall fundraiser for Girl Scouts.
    • Scout leader gets Sam's Club chocolates.
    • Kids' best friends will get something I knit. This year was hats for 3 good friends and handknit socks for 3 VERY good friends. Since I like knitting socks best, I'll see if I get any feedback from the kids I knit for in 2008.
    • DH will probably get clothes. Maybe I'll save up credit card points and use them for his gifts from Eddie Bauer or Lands' End.
    • Like lovestolaugh's kids, my kids will get also stuff I shop for at the last minute, too. Their tastes change a lot over one year.

Now, if I just happen to come across the perfect sterling silver guitar earrings for DD at the thrift store, I'll gladly snap them up for the gift stash. But I'm not banking on it.

I am all to familiar with buying gifts and then later buying more as it does not seem to be enough. (cause I know what I paid for it) lol This year I took a 3 X 5 notebook and am recording all the gifts I have bought along with the name of the person it is for. I have wrapped some of them as I now know what there are. I keep them in totes labeled gifts. So far I have 3 sets of 4napkins, placemats and rings. Fuzzy warm socks 5, 3 sets of undies for DDs, 2 acorn birdfeeders, Christmas socks 6, monkey slippers for dd's bf, perfume 3, lotion set, 6 dip/spreader sets, 7 mugs to fill with cake in mug. All were bought at 75% off. Yeah!! I will make many gifts in addition. I found the birdfeeders at Lowe's. Reg. 24.--, marked down to 5.48. There are beautiful. I find lots of good deals there and always watch for huge markdowns.

I don't have anything boughten because I'm hoping most of our gifts will be homemade. I'm watching for a few little toys to put in the Christmas socks I've made so far. Hopefully I can pick those up at yard sales in the spring.
