Red face Humbled by my Wesley regarding Christmas gifts

Let me preface this story by saying I love Christmas. I love decorating and giving gifts. I enjoy making gifts and watching people open gifts. This year I totally slacked in the making of gifts because I was not on the ball enough (blaming shingles, W's circumcision ordeal, pregnancy, Maggie, new job, etc.) and ended up purchasing all our gifts other than the doll I will be making Maggie.

Anywhoo, a few nights ago I mentioned to Wesley that he would have to buy Maggie a Christmas present. Keep in mind that Wesley is 3 1/2.

My sweet little Wesley looked at me and so excitedly said, "I CAN MAKE HER ONE!!!!" He had all sorts of ideas of what to make her...some better than others (good idea--blanket, not so good idea--marshmallow gun like his so they can have shoot-outs, although I love the idea of them playing together, I imagined her as being more of a bullseye than an active participant.) We settled on the idea of decorating a picture frame for her and putting a picture of Wesley and Maggie in it to put on the shelf near her crib.

I was completely humbled and kind of shamed that my little big boy had to remind me that presents don't just have to be bought, even if they are being made by little bitty fingers. This picture frame may be hideously ugly, but it will be made with love and happiness and pure unabashed joy from the best big brother in the world.

And now my darned hormones have me all weepy. Ick. Ignore the weepy one. Carry on.

Toooo cute McD......and you should be really proud of him. He sounds like a real sweatheart, and thoughtful person!

That frame will be cherished at a later date, for sure!!

What a wonderful post. It made me feel weepy too!

I can just picture him working so earnestly on his gift,
and then proudly displaying his handiwork afterwards!

A beautiful gesture from a beautiful little boy. I hope
that sweetness stays with him forever.

Aww, that is cute. Use lots of lacquer on that frame. You'll want it to last a long, long time.

Extremely sweet! You must be doing a great job raising him. Keep this memory tucked away for when they are 16 and 13.

Marshmallow gun is a win win. He gets to shoot his sister, she gets to eat the marshmallows!

Did you know that a 4 year student paying $20,000/year who finances their education graduates with over $103,000 in debt to start? But a student who works and pays cash and takes 6 years to graduate ends with $6,300 in their pocket! So much for "getting a head start by financing!"

I'm laughing so hard at this, my sides are starting to hurt! Sooooo takes me back to when my boys were little.

Don't feel too humbled, though. Remember, Wesley has not been pg/had a new baby, has not had shingles, or a new job. He has all the cares of a 3-1/2 yr. old. (except for that circ thing...ouch...I must have missed that thread)
