Default Christmas dinner.- How much $

Using turkey as a main course how much would a Christmas dinner cost a family of four?

I guess assume all the fixins an average family would eat.

Hard to say. I usually budget about $50. for our xmas dinner. And I already have stuff in the pantry.
just bought a second turkey (honeysuckle) .79# $10.
    -rolls ubake (36) $3.
    -apple sauce (meijer) $1.
    -stuffing (2 boxes) $2.
    -mashed potatoes (10 bakers,butter) $3
    -canned corn .75
    -2 head broccoli (aldis) $2
    -2 HM pies $16
    -tea,pop,milk,sparkling cider $10
We do semi homemade, leftovers built in and I have 2 teenagers. We also snack on crackers, cheese, salami, popcorn most of which comes from Aldis throughout the day.
Just curious. Why do you ask?

My wife and I, rather than donating to an organization will be donating to families instead.

Depends entirely on the price of turkey. Everything else we have costs only a few dollars total.

our 20 lb turkey only cost us .29 lb, so I would say probably around $20.00 with desserts. We like spiral ham too, so if I factor that in probably add around another $15.00.

The American Farm Bureau does an analysis every year.

    http://www.fb.org/index.php?fuseacti...le=nr1112.html

An average Thanksgiving meal for a family of 10 cost $42.91 this year. From that you can calculate how much it would cost for a similar Christmas dinner for 4 people.

WOW! That's so nice of your family to do that We donate box and can food after we shop at the store. There is a large container as you leave the store. I would think you could pick everything up for under $50. I always have some of our holiday dinner in the stockpile.

How in the world for a family of 10 for thanksgiving would it only be $42. I HIGHLY disagree with that. Or maybe I just make to much food for my family, LOL.

Good for you Russ because if there was ever a year it was needed. You could cut at least $10. off that because you could get a riverside turkey for .49# but that is the cheapest I saw here.
We donate money to Gleaners. The said on their slip $25. becomes $275. to provide food for $150 meals. They are out of indiana.
Not telling you what to do but maybe you could shop for them and give them the food? I personally feel I am better than the average shopper at finding deals. I would bet you are too. (before I get ego blasted I am excluding anyone here from "average")
