    Talking Spunky warm christmas drinks

Every year my MIL has a tradition of making hot apple cidar mixed with Captain Morgan. Blah, it's okay however we have had some fun times Christmas Eve opening gifts with big coffee mugs though.

I'm not much of a mixed drink person or know of many mixed drinks that are hot(please no peppermint snapps, gag) But I was wanting to have something different this year. She would be thrilled.

So is there a hot drink you would like to share? Come on, don't be shy.

warm dr pepper with a sugar cinnamon stick in it. (i know is sounds ick but it is very good and not "recognizable" to most people)

hot chocolate and : (Frangelica (hazelnut), 43 (vanilla), gran marnier (orange), etc there are lots of great flavors on the shelves

mulled wine or wassail or spiced wine

spiced tea /chai with Bailey's, amaretto, or any of the above listed names.

Irish coffee or a flavored coffee like pumpkin spice with Bailey's

*yes, i grew up in the 60's in a house where coctails and highballs were the holiday showcase. hehehe

Cocoa is our winter drink of choice. Sometimes I make it "mexican style" with a dash of cinnamon and cayenne. You can also put fruit extract in it, like raspberry or orange. Hyvee sells flavored cocoa packets that are really good, though a little expensive if you want a lot of them.

This is a very good recipe for home made mix: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/a...ipe/index.html

You can warm apple cider with a cinnamon stick and a piece of orange peel and maybe 2-3 whole cloves and it will be tasty and not alcoholic.

Coffee with a creamy liquer? I'm not a big fan of Bailey's but a few sips and I'd be fine You should wander around the liquor section of your store and see what they have to mix with coffee's OR ask the staff for suggestions. Here we buy our liquor at the LCBO (liquor store) and the staff is beyond knowledgeable!

I think your MIL's drink sounds pretty good

We like to try different things. Dh is partial to Bailey's Irish Cream in his coffee. I tried Hot Buttered Rum one year. GAG! Too "rummy" for my taste.

I LOVE hot buttered rum! But you have to like rum, and I guess you also have to like drinking butter . I like both.

My fil makes the most awesome coffee drink but I don't know what he puts in it. He's going to be here in 10 days, I'm going to get him to make one for me as soon as he gets here.

    From the LCBO website:

    Haute Chocolate

    1. In a heatproof glass, add 1 1/2 oz. Baileys Irish Cream and 1/2 oz. DiSaronno Amaretto.
    2. Top with 6 oz. of hot chocolate and garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

    B52 Coffee

    1. To a heatproof mug, add 1/2 oz. Kahlua, 1/2 oz. Grand Marnier and 1/2 oz. Irish cream liquor.
    2. Top with hot coffee and whipped cream and garnish with an orange wheel.

    Café Brulot

Traditionally made in a copper chaffing dish, it also works well in a frying pan. This “burnt coffee” is not burnt but flambéed with brandy, which makes a great after dinner drink.

6 pitted prunes, cut into dice
    1 cinnamon stick
Zest of 1 orange cut into slivers
Zest of 1 lemon cut into slivers
6 oz Plum or regular brandy
    3 tbsp sugar
    16 oz hot coffee

Place the prunes, cinnamon stick and zests in a frying pan. Crush them with the back of a soup ladle to release all the flavours. Add the brandy and sugar and bring slowly to a boil over medium-low heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar and pressing the fruit to extract all the flavour. When the liquid comes to a boil, light it carefully with a long match and slowly pour in the hot coffee to douse the flames. Stir until well blended and strain and serve in demitasses.

    Festive Warmer

Just the scent of this hot cocktail is enough to tempt the palate, but it’s the full taste and textures of hot liquid, cool whipped cream and crunchy almonds that make this coffee drink supreme.

To a heatproof mug add 1 oz Kahlúa, ½ oz Amaretto and 4 to 5 oz hot coffee. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with 1 tsp. toasted shaved almonds and chocolate shavings.

    Entertaining Size: Serves 8 People

    1 cup Kahlúa
    ½ cup Amaretto
    4 cups hot coffee
    Whipped cream, for topping
    Toasted shaved almonds, for garnish
    Chocolate shavings, for garnish

Add Kahlúa, amaretto and coffee to a thermos. Pour into heatproof mugs and top each with whipped cream, toasted shaved almonds and chocolate shavings.

Ok I'm just making this one up on the spot but plan on trying it soon! Dunkin Donuts has what is called a Dunkachino(sp?) it's a mix between coffee and cocoa, and I was thinking of adding some Kahlua to it, because I love a little nip in a dessert coffee drink!

Wow, that is right up my ally, too bad Greebo doesn't like coconut. I really like your avatar MrsFoamy.
