Christmas gift idea
I have a lovely neighbor that I would like to give a gift to. She is in her 80's and to quote her "has everything she needs". I am at a loss of what would be a nice present.
She is on a restricted diet, so I don't want to overstep and give her sweets.
I just want to give her something to put under her little tree. Her family is not close
and her husband is not well this year. I don't think she will have anything to open Christmas morning.
Does anyone have an idea? Any help/ideas would be appreciated!

Maybe a special ornament signed with your name on it and a little message. That way every christmas she will remember that you thought about her and took time out for her.

Or maybe just a simple decoration for her house that she can always look at.

Puzzle or crossword books? Grocery gift card? Jigsaw puzzle?

If she doesn't drive anymore, how about an invitation to take her for a drive anywhere (within reason of course) - to enjoy the holidays lights perhaps, to visit a friend or just to be out and about.
An invitation to lunch where she could choose her food.
She grew up in the age of writing 'real letters' - perhaps some stationery and stamps.
Please let us know what you decide - your thoughtfulness and generosity is bound to be contagious!!Travel light. The baggage of the past can only hold you back.

Good ideas! I guess I was just stumped on what to give.
She does drive and we went to the store one day. I offered to buy her a coffee since it was cold out. She thought I was crazy to buy coffee, when she has a pot at home. lol I just thought it was a nice gesture to buy to cups of coffee at the shop in the store. She refused to let me get her one! It give me a different perspective tho
Thanks for the ideas.

Maybe a small fruit basket? A pair of pretty apples, pears, and oranges, with a bag of those mixed nuts that are in stores this season, and maybe a box of crackers and a wedge of cheese. It can be festive, and may be an appreciated part of their holiday meal.

I like the ornament idea - if you know they have a tree up. Find/make one that has the year on it?
Instead of food b/c you're unsure of diet restrictions - what about a gift card to the local grocery store? This way they can buy what they normally eat/use/like and who else knows their diet restrictions better then them right?2012: The Year Of The Purge!

How about cut flowers? They will brighten the house and it's probably something she would enjoy but never buy for herself if she balks at a cup of coffee out.

I bought my grandmother who is that age 3 packs of cards (1 pack Adult Birthday, 1 Pack Kids Birthday and 1 Pack Sympathy) and a book of stamps. She loves to send cards and is very practical.
To put with them I got her 2 bottles of Bath and Bodyworks Lotion. She would never splurge on them for herself but loves them.

I think I might do some stationary, lotion and an ornament. I just wanted something small for her to unwrap Christmas morning
Thanks everyone for the ideas. I was just so stumped on what to buy!
