    Talking Why do people put marshmallows on sweet potatoes

    Everyone seems to do it!!!

    Why would you want to ruin a perfect sweet potato with marshmallow yuck? I can't escape this madness! It's everywhere!

    I will take 'em baked, roasted, candied, fries, or sweet potato casserole, but I can't deal with this anymore.

    I'm going to start a petition. Would you like to sign?

    It is like ruining a perfectly good grapefruit by putting sugar on it.

    EW! I've seen this before - 'candied yams with marshmallows' or 'sweet potatoes with marshmallows' at the buffet (in the US) - how is this considered a 'side dish'?

    Hello...marshmallows turn it into a dessert or treat LOL Thats my 2 cents. Not a big fan of modding the sweet taters like that....its just wrong. Almost like a violation. Again...my two cents.

    ETA - well if its already candied...do you need to make it more sweet with the marshmallows? I'd rather have a piece of chocolate cake or something instead for that amount of sugars lol

    Oh...so maybe my putting a whole stick of butter and a one lb. box of dark brown sugar on them is a bit much? But cook 'em down and they are sooooo good that way! NO MARSHMALLOWS!!!

    Darn straight! They should just grow out of the ground that way.

    Best way ever, I say.

    TigerGirl - your caf served salted grapefruits or marshmallowed grapefruits? LOL (Sorry couldn't resist)

    I do add a min pinch of salt over my grapefruit if its unexceptionally bitter...it enhances or makes the flavours more vibrant and brings out what lil sweetness is left in it. Putting sugar on it never did it for me.

    Oh...I can't vouch for Canada but I know I like mine savory vs sweet.

    You know:
    * boiled plain
    * pan fried
    * mashed with salt & bit of margarine & garlic/onion
    * baked with herbs like oven fries

    I have had it in an asian 'sweet soup' - simple syrup broth (all sweet) infused with ginger with diced up chunks of sweet potatoes and I can't remember what else is in it. LOL its been that long since I've had it but I have noticed it in the asian buffets now with the hot desserts.
