I hang them on the wall near the tree. There is no fireplace in our home to hang them from. On Christmas Eve, Santa takes them off the wall to fill and lays them with the other gifts.

We lay them in front of the Christmas tree the night before Christmas. We don't have a fireplace (too hot here for one). I have been thinking of getting some of the 3M hangers that are mounted by the tape (they don't stick to the wall, they peel off without any damage - I can't think of the name of them right now) and hanging them on the wall by the tree.

We have a mantle but cant put nails in it because we are renting. I dont want to put up the heavy hangers because I know that oneof the girls will pull it down on their head.
I was thinking I would get some no stick hangers but we will see. Otherwise they will be put in front of the fireplace christmas day.Last edited by kittykatstrong; 12-03-2008 at 12:29 AM.

no mantle here, but I hang them from the door pulls on the cabinet in the living room, right across from the tree, once filled by "santa", they get placed in front of the tree, since they are heavy enough that I worry about damaging the cabinet pulls.

We don't have a mantle, so our stockings have hung in a variety of creative places over the years until I finally found a solution! I have a quilt hanger in my living room, that normally houses my wedding quilt. Well, now, when Christmas rolls around, I take the quilt off the bar and hang our stockings, some green garland, our Polar Express bell and some bright colored balls! It's perfect becuase it looks really nice, and DH anchored that sucker into the wall so well, that I can actually fill the stockings up there and I know it isn't coming down on anyone!

We lay our stockings at the foot of the tree... no mantle here either and the last time I hung it with a 'non-stick hook' one came crashing down right after I filled them. Near Santa sighting that night!
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

We hang them on the mantle and the dog stockings are hung on stocking holders usually on the firplace somewhere ~ high enough so they can't get at them.

We hang them on the mantle. We have a marble fireplace so I have to use the weighted stocking holders. BUT, I have yet to find one heavy enough to hold the stocking once it's filled. Filled stockings get laid in front of the fireplace (which is right next to the tree).

I installed cup hooks in the bottom of my mantle at our first Christmas. They are not very large, so they are not noticed the other 11 months of the year.
