What is your Christmas decor?
I was watching a show and got the idea for this topic..
Do you do ~ elegant, simple, modern, country/rustic, mix it up, etc.???
I would say it's mix it up here.. There's no color coding or any specific style, if I like it I use it... I'd say, it's just fun/festive..Last edited by Syn D; 11-27-2010 at 03:45 AM.

Hmm...traditional, maybe?
I don't do the actual decorating; my mom does. And...its a little sparse, not to mention a tad eclectic. But, overall, I'd say traditional. Outside, we do a string of lighted evergreen garland on our porch, and wreaths on the door and windows. Inside, a few candles, a glass Nativity set, and lots of snowman stuff that was inherited from my grandma.
Our actual tree is a mix of fancy ornaments, kid-friendly ornaments, and homemade ornaments that my sister and I made as kids. The last few years we lost a LOT of our ornaments due to cat ownership, lol.

overall I would say rustic/country. But our christmas tree itself is ecclectic and the reason is because its made of ornaments from whereever we go. I say its a "tree of memories" because whenever we do something as a family we buy an ornament from that place as our soveinier. So if we go to the zoo we get an ornament from there, we go to pigeon forge TN we get an ornament from there, ect. We started this tradition on our honeymoon in Mexico

Right now it looks like a red and green bomb went off. Need to get everything in place.
Normally it is a country style.

I don't do a tree, but I do decorate a bit with country/rustic stuff well this year anyway. Last year I did a table scape that was just wintery with white and ice blue. I am going to put that scene on top of the hutch on my desk with lights. The rest will be the darker, warmer look.

Thrift shop/yard sale/vacation ecclectic.
we too had always picked up an ornament from vacations bug I also bought alot at yard sales and thrift stores. With two cats and a Rottie, our ornaments sometimes don't last long.
as far as style......I would say country.

Ours is mix-it-up...our lifestyle is casual so is our decorating. I have ornaments from when I was a child on our tree and things that my kids have made or been given and stuff dh and I have bought that caught our eye. I like a tree decorated with a wide variety of things. The decorations we set out in the house are just things that we liked when we saw them. Dh decorates outside with lights and put-together thingies, etc. I don't think you can go wrong with Christmas decorations!

I used to drag down everything down from the attic. Every room was decorated with it's own theme. It was way over the top.
Now I go for a more simplistic Christmas decor. It's kind of on the woodsy side. I bring in evergreen branches, and holly branches (from the backyard) to fill stoneware vases with, to drape over the pictures, doorways, bookcases. I make a centerpiece with them for the dining room table, lots of candles. Our tree is the old fashioned kind, lots of collected ornaments & white lights.
Very simple, leaning towards a country elegance.~~~

Mine is simple and a mix of everything. I have ornaments my kids made, family made, gifts, nice one's from Hobby Lobby and even the dollar store.
I have some expensive decorations that play music, my houses that light up, candy cane house, and my Santa's that talk.

mix it up
from vintage mini glass christmas balls i keep in a vase on dining room table- to hand made things the kids made.
TBH i feel sad when i go into some of my kids friends homes who are real keep up with the jonses typs-where everything has to be a certain color / style on the tree etc because all those little hand made things get put aside.
i usually buy the kids a new ornament each year that has to do with something they are doing or a hobby fav TV show etc ay when they move out on their own they have a starter set .
i will save the time for the perfect color coordinated - tree/ decor for when my kids are all moved out and grown but even then i can see ornaments hand made by grandkids etc on it .*~Debbi~*

I don't do a lot of decorating now. I used to have a ton of knick-knacks but it was such a pain putting it all away. Now I enjoy just having a tree. Our tree is a real mish-mash. We collect ornaments when we are on vacation so there is no real theme.

Ours is Victorian, but I have two Christmas trees. The one in the living room is our memory tree. I have all the ornaments from the children, grandkids and even a couple I made as a child. It tends to look like it is going to slowly topple over on one side, as the Gkids help decorate it and they don't spread the ornaments out.We string popcorn and cranberries , and I do have vintage lights. The tree in the parlor is always formal and themed. We have a nativity set that is lit up outside . I have lots of candles lit inside at night, and we have the fireplaces downstairs lit. We have a family tradition of red roses with holiday greenery(holly, evergreen, and pinecone branches) in a big bowl on the dining room table as our centerpiece. I will fill with fresh roses when needed from now till New Years Day.
