Default What did you give to yourself this year?

Since this time of year is so crazy, for all of you that are parents especially, I hope you all got yourselves a little something... Maybe a day off from shopping/cooking/cleaning/watching the kids or maybe it was something you wanted/needed.

Me, I bought myself a set of containers with freezable lids to use for bringing my lunch in to work. So, I might have spent a little bit ($25 shipped to be exact) but by bringing my lunch to work instead of buying it in the cafeteria each day, I'll save a lot more over the course of the year. So that's how I justified my purchase anyway I ordered these off of Walmart.com...and I know I mentioned them in another thread earlier in the year.

I especially like the salad container. The part the freezes is the little tray that surrounds the dip container, so if you put tuna, or cheese or veggies in the tray, they'll stay really cold and so will the dressing. Most of the containers are small enough to fit in a purse even, so I don't have to put my lunch in the rank-smelling refrigerator that obviously hasn't been cleaned out in eons...lol. I'm a big fan of not having to use sandwich baggies/saran wrap/etc. because it gets thrown away after a use or two. Even BF is happy about the little compartmentalized one, since he likes to take leftover chicken pot pie, or pastas for lunch.

Soooo....what did you buy for YOURSELF this year?

I bought it in November, but my Christmas present to myself was a heated toilet seat. Expensive, and worth every last penny. I LOVE this thing!! My sister and my mother tried it out yesterday and are both now threatening to take up permanent residence on it this winter!!

Heheheh, I used to sell those when I worked at the plumbing/heating wholesaler back in Indiana. Some of them can run you a pretty penny! I remember one that was heated, and also turned the toilet into a toilet/bidet! lol...I'm sure there were other options it had, too, because it was a couple thousand dollars. Kohler makes some really interesting products LOL.

BTW, nice to see you back MadHen. I haven't seen your posts in quite awhile

A massage sounds awesome I need to get something done about my shoulder/arm. I think I have a pinched nerve or something going on...and it kills me when I'm on the computer for long periods of time. Now that I'm working in Accts. Payable at this new job, long computer hours are a given I get a sharp/burning pain on the front side of like my armpit and then sometimes my shoulder blade feels semi-numb when I do dishes or blow dry my hair...It's driving me insane! I think I get health/dental benefits after 30 days...so hopefully I can get it checked out soon! lol

    Ooh, it is luverly...

Picture getting up in the early hours, it is about 50F in the house, and you have your choice: sit down on a ceramic toilet seat that feels like it has been sitting in ice-water OR sit down and feel the toasty comfort of a toilet seat that reminds you of how you feel when you come in from the cold and get to stand in front of a warm wood stove. Bring a book, because you will want an excuse to stay a while.

Usually I will have a box that I have wrapped different things and put in the box. When x-mas rolls around I open up everything. This year I got to the box around October and did not replenish it since I was so busy.

    Default ooooh... i love these....

and very justifiable...you are so right you will save so much money over the course of the year....You said $25, I can spend $5 a day on snacks and lunch so in one week i would recover that and i still have 38 weeks to go....ummm...

Dh and I treat ourselves to flavored coffee from World Market and Trader Joe's. We look forward to seeing which flavor we both agree on each morning. We also go to Starbuck's, but only if we have been given a gift card their and we get a chocolate, chocolate chip frappacuino.

I know that it is just something small, but it is something that we have been able to fit into our budget on a regular basis.

Toys -- all toys! Well, it is Christmas!

Last fall I bought some new jigsaw puzzles, still waiting to be done.

Yarn for my stash, or on this forum I guess I should call it my yarn stockpile.

New audiobooks to listen to while I use up the yarn. I really need to e-mail audible.com and tell them to stop the alluring sales now.

Four books that I found really cheap used on Amazon that were recommended to me. Three are here (from US and Switzerland) and one to come (from the UK). I LOVE Amazon! I ever expected to be able to find the ones coming from Europe.

I have to admit, I've had a nicer Christmas than I probably deserved, but I have no regrets. My entertainment budget can be zero for a long time with this bounty on hand.

I always buy myself a few presents and put them under the tree so my son thinks that Santa got mommy presents too.

I had the disposable face cloths as a stocking stuffer. I picked up two glass holiday votive holders from the Christmas Tree shop and my "real" gift was a new fleece bathrobe from LLBean. I got it at the outlet for $15! It was a steal and I couldn't resist. Now I'm looking forward to being toasty warm on the chilly mornings.

I didn't buy myself anything. I usually don't because my husband is pretty good at shopping.
However, I did give myself permission to take it easy this Christmas. I didn't go crazy with preparations. I did minimal decorating. I planned an easy menu. I didn't spend days cleaning and trying to make the house perfect before the big day. I bought just what I planned to buy and did not spend days at the mall looking for more. I didn't stay up late Christmas eve arranging and rearranging the presents, trying to make the tree look more "full". I allowed my self just to relax and take it easy with the holiday prep.
