It does help if you know them well. I supervise 5-6 student workers, college students, and I give them $10 Amazon gift cards. They all shop online, have Amazon accounts, and the student prime shipping. If there were more, I couldn't do that. But I agree that some sort of small gift card would be fine.

If you go with edibles, how about some nice tea or coffee? I would love sweets, but I'm diabetic and really, really don't need the temptation. Food can be tricky with the allergies, various conditions, medical diets, and medications so prevalent today. On the other hand, I'm sure they could find someone to eat the awesome homemade cookies even if they couldn't.

Like this idea............keep it VERY GENERIC.......for all sorts of
reasons, unless you know all of them well.

    Allergies---for food items
    Some people don't drink caffeine
Some people don't drink tea or coffee due to religious reasons
Many people don't celebrate Xmas for whatever the reason
    Allergies for scented items
    Diets, diabetes, special eating habits

How about taking them to lunch as a group? A pizza place wouldn't be too expensive.........or have it delivered. And don't forget a vegan pizza--if that applies.

My dd's work place does this and she never gets to participate as she's celiac. They know this (she's worked there for 6 years), but they never change the party, and never get/do anything different for her.

Our company as a whole provides Holiday party/bonus and such what I myself really appreciate is when my supervisors sends out her individual thank you's to everyone telling them how much our hard work and dedication throughout the year means. This also happens through out the year also.

We have two businesses. We cater a Christmas party for each and have a white elephant gift exchange. It is hilarious, and everyone loves it. We give a holiday bonus and a ham every year.

I used to get the Victorias Secret 5 for whatever dollars lotions, get a box of Christmas cards and then go to Big Lots (Dollar Store... whatever you have) and get a cute decoration and put it on it then attach the card using the decoration. I'd try to write something personal to each person in the card instead of just signing it. I'd go around and place them on desks before anyone got to the office.

i went to macys today and got 5 boxes of different coffee tea and hot cocoa in the K cups for the coffee machine at dhs work - they have one but people have to buy their own k-cups to use .
so i am going to put them in a nice basket and make it look at christmasy - add a card and i am sure they will love that ,

If someone doest use any of the above things i add into it ( plan to add maybe some sacks too ) i tried my best to come up with something that the majority can use .

This year we each received a free range turkey from a local farm. It was a lovely gesture. In the past, I've received gift cards for coffee shops and book stores that were great. Also, a handwritten card goes a long way for me. I'll take a thoughtful card over a cheap knick-knack or a homemade treat from an unknown kitchen any day...those items never make it past the trash bin in my garage.

Typically, my husband skips the gifts completely and takes his group out for a long lunch at a nice restaurant.

The pt job boss is giving us $20 gift card for the local grocery store. I am happy, it will help offset the cost of baking goodies for me this year.

Other things I've received here & there: "movie theme" cute decorated paper sack filled with a soda can, microwave popcorn packet, and "movie theater" candy item.

Coffee or tea in a cute cup. (easy to re-gift if they don't like the item)

Super cute pencils, post-it notes, tablets. I love scoring these because I can use them up, they aren't just a collectible sitting around.

    Challenges for 2012:
2012 Grocery Budget Reduction Challenge- $100 a month. (down from $150) Hm, might be too low.
Electric Usage Challenge (doing well, under $70 most months)

Yah, I suck at this money stuff, I know. That's why I'm here.

I used to supervise 13 people and did not make a whole lot of money myself. I would usually at sometime bring in a huge plate of cookies to share, but I also gave each individual 1 microwave popcorn bag and a Hershey's chocolate/peppermint candy cane. It wasn't much but I did it for 10 years and you would not believe the people that said they waited for that every year.
