I buy a pan of lo mein it is not frugal but we enjoy it
rice with scrambled eggs and veggies
    wontons
    egg rolls
    fried dumplings
    fortune cookies
homemade apple pie with vanilla ice cream
    chocolate mousse cake

Good for you on making the meal your own. Not sure what we're going to have. We are having a family meal however usually on Christmas Day am, dad and I go to the casino...now DH will be joining us. We usually gorge on the buffet mid afternoon then head back home.

Our planned meal isn't really planned. Rumour has it being: turkey, prime rib or steak We did turkey for both Canadian and US Thanksgiving.

I got a 14 lb frozen turkey on sale and witha coupon the week before Thanksgiving for $1.08. Also got the cranberry sauce on sale for 75 cents a can. Bells stuffing mix, 2 boxes for $3.00.

I will buy some snowflake rolls, baby carrots, and maybe a butternut squash. Not sure on the dessert.

I am a couponer so I buy when there are sales.

We have spiral ham for christmas eve at my parents and I don't do a turkey at Thanksgiving so we are really looking forward to a turkey and leftovers.

Christmas Day is at home with just myself, my husband, and our son (and the pets). Our son is 2 1/2 and we decided last year that Christmas Day would always be at home and just us.

    mashed potatoes
    ham gravy (yum!)
    mixed vegies
    dinner rolls
    jello
    brocolli and cheddar rice

I think we'll be having ham (bought on sale). Everything else is negotiable, except stuffing. . . yep, Stuffing and Ham! I'll make mounds of food, eat off it for a week, like Thanksgiving. Oh, yes, I will be making some crazy three day intense cooking dessert masterpiece - which I have yet to decide on, of course. If I play my cards right, I won't have to cook from Christmas through to my birthday, January 2nd. (which also requires some crazy dessert masterpiece, which I, for some reason, am the only one who can make. But, that's better than the pint of Ben and Jerry's with a candle in the top - thanks honey!)

Christmas Day we'll probably go to my in-laws' house, and I have no idea what they'll have, some sort of meat I'm sure!

On Dec 17 we're hosting a Christmas party here but I'm doing a buffet with mostly stuff I can made ahead like hummus, various other dips, breadsticks, pita bread, etc., and a bunch of sweets (truffles, etc) as well. The goal is to have almost all of it made in advance!

Our tradition is Ham, potato salad, deviled eggs, stuffing, yams, collard greens, rolls, and red velvet cake. If ham does not go on sale we will be having turkey instead.

We'll be having turkey and a spiral ham...both free...Mom gets them from work. We always have rice (we're Southerners!), cranberry sauce, crackers with green pepper jelly and cream cheese, red velvet cake, and I don't know the other stuff yet.

Valerian, is the green pepper jelly made with green peppers and jalapenos? if so we call that hot pepper jelly here. I am trying to tweak a recipe for hot pepper jelly with cranberries. does that not sound yummy... Merry Christmas everyone

I have two meals to cook this year. One will be our Christmas Day meal, we invite friends over whose family live out of town. For that meal, we will be having the following:

    beef and noodles
    dinner rolls
    mashed potatoes
    side salad
    watergate salad
    veggie tray with ranch dressing
    apple pie

I am not 100% sure when we are having our neighbor over for Christmas dinner. Zac works on Christmas Day and we won't schedule the dinner unless all of us can be there. I am thinking we are going to splurge a bit and get prime rib.

Since I did ham for Thanksgiving at my Son's request I am doing a Butterball turkey for Christmas.

I am sure many are completely done with the concept of turkey for awhile but since I have not had it yet....yay for turkey and stuffing and sandwiches with cream cheese and cranberry the day after and....LOL :-)

After many years of spending all day in the kitchen cooking on Christmas day, my daughter & I decided enough two years ago and we now have snacks we munch on all day. On the stove is two pots of soup....chicken tortilla and ravoli soup usually...we put this out about 5 along with meat/cheese trays and we have soup and sandwiches. Lots of desserts....paper plates, cups, plastic ware...not much clean up....we love this.....

We'll be having prime rib, stuffed baked potatoes, roasted asparagus and either red velvet or coconut cake for dessert.
