Default What are your favorite Christmas gifts you have ever got and why?

The first one was a microwave that was out first Christmas together in side the microwave was a diamond necklace. That was a wow moment it really was.
The other one was gifts that came from my husband and daughter after my mother died I never thought I was going to smile again. So my wonderful husband and daughter bought me a tickle me elmo. I laughed so hard and we played with it all day and still do...

Oooh. Nothing so sentimental, but I got a Madame Alexander doll for Christmas one year. She was lovely.

One year, DH got a Lost in Space robot. Nothing before or since could ever compare. I could buy him a CAR, and it wouldn't impress him as much as that toy robot did when he was a kid.

    So, he's getting socks.

When I was a kid my mom saved up and scrimped so I could get an American Girl doll (Samantha) from Santa. I've never been so excited about a present in my whole life. I still have her, too

Although my husband proposed around Thanksgiving, he had the ring made and it wasn't ready until Christmas Eve. He was planning to give it to me on Christmas Eve so that it wouldn't end up being a "Christmas present" but we fell asleep, so he gave it to me on Christmas morning. That's definitely the most amazing thing I've ever gotten on Christmas, even if it wasn't supposed to be a Christmas present!

I went to Hawaii over Christmas one year, and stayed in the home of someone who had gone to the states for Christmas. On Christmas morning, the next-door neighbors brought me a basket woven from palm fronds filled with fresh fruit from their backyard. It was so exotic, and the fruit the most delicious I had ever tasted! That was the best Christmas!

I got my parents and little sister at my door on Christmas morning, and I had NO idea they were coming. It was our first Christmas apart (they were in NJ due to a job transfer, and I was in Texas, spending my first year away from them with my two small children). Early Christmas morning, when I was feeling REALLY sad about not being with them, there was a knock at the door and there stood the three of them. I don't even remember what was in those boxes they held; all I remembered was how grateful I was to not spend the holiday apart. Best Christmas ever. Little did I know, my father only had a few Christmases left, so it makes it all the more precious to me.

Last Christmas dh and I went to see "Its a Wonderful Life" done as a live radio play 1940's style at a little local playhouse. It was amazing! The clothing the old microphones , being part of a live broadcast! They even had cigarette girls walking around with trays selling penny candy and popcorn!

The gift that meant the most to me is :
My Mom died when I was 25 (39 yrs ago) and I due with my son anyday. Dr. would not let me travel to attend her funeral. Ten years ago my sister gave me her bible and my husband, without me knowing, had it rebinded and our names inprinted on the front.
The gift I remember from being little is: I was 8 and I got a little baking set with those little pans and little boxes of cake mixes.....

I remember when I was fairly young I got the most beautiful large wooden easel. It had chalkboard on one side and the other side was a huge newspaper type paper tablet held on with a huge metal clip. There was a wooden tray that held new chalk, en eraser, poster paints, paint brushes stood upright in holes drilled for them.

My oldest brother Jeff made it for me in the basement in Dad's workshop. I am the youngest of 7 kids with a dad who worked a factory job and a stay at home mom. I now have a pretty good idea that we went through some very lean times. But I did not know that then.

I think this present was done with the budget in mind...but to this day it is and will most likely always be my most special memory and gift.

I think one of the most memorable Christmases was the one that one of my brothers and I provided most of the presents. My parents or the community, or church helped provide the food. I don't remember that part.

But we had saved up money from collecting cans and other things and we walked over to the nearest convenience store and bought a foot long piece of gum and a cheap toy for everybody. He insisted that I not look when he paid for the toy he got for me. (We were around 10-12.) We went home and wrapped them all up and put them under the tree and in stockings for everybody.

That was the leanest Christmas I remember, but I always liked that cheap imitation Barbie doll he got for me.

The other one was several years before that, when my Dad was able to do woodworking. He made each of the boys a toy on wheels - a train engine, boat, whatever for them to scoot around on. For us girls, he made us each a rocking cradle specifically sized for dolls we got that year. And a table with matching chairs for tea parties, crafting or whatever.

I'm with Ponderer. When someone asks this, the thing that springs to mind is always the easel and paints I was given when I was eight or nine years old. I was dismayed because there was no brown paint, and my uncle showed me how to make it from colors I had. It was like magic. What a wonderful gift that was!

My grandmother persisted in giving me dolls year after year, Madame Alexanders among them. I was polite, and they went in the top of the closet immediately after Christmas. For me, getting a doll was about on a par with getting socks.
