When I worked for AAFES, our store would do a casual party at a local restraunt. AAFES would give each store a set amount of money to spend- so our meals were covered.
DH's squadron does a Christmas party for adults and a kids party. We missed both because DH is TDY. If he had been here, we would have skipped the adult party since we don't have anyone to babysit. Probably would have gone to the kids party and brought some finger foods.Wife to Air Force DH for 7 years.

When I worked, the mother church always had a party. I went a few years but I really didn't know anyone other then maybe 1 or 2 people out of about 150 people. Most years I would be sitting at a table where I knew no one. I would try to talk to the people but they would just talk "around" me. After a few years, I started having Dr.'s appt. that day. No one missed me and I didn't miss them...

My office always has a potluck holiday party followed by a gift exchange. I have managed to miss it for about 23 years now.
