Reading this thread reminded me of Christmas 1991. I worked in retail part time so got home about 9 PM Christmas Eve. My son was out of town and daughter had her own apt. My divorce had become final just days before. I came home and turned on Christmas music, got a glass of wine and was sitting looking at my christmas tree with just lights and 3 ornaments on it(just didn't have the desire to decorate) and wondering where my life was going & feeling sorry for myself. All of a sudden, there was banging on my door..Santa???? I jumped up and threw open the door....it was the police....lady upstairs had complained that my music was too loud!! How can Silent Night and Joy to the World be too loud & on Christmas Eve??? Being the nice person I am, I told the officer I would take care of it. I turned off my music and went to bed....about 15 minutes later there was alot of noise coming from upstairs if you get my drift. Guess she was getting her Christmas present...I tried to ignore but finally I got up & calmly got the broom and started banging on the ceiling....it got reallllllll quiet realllll quick.....I then went into my living room, turned my music back on and finished my wine....I lived there for another six months and never heard another word from her!!!! I survived that Christmas being alone, and still laugh about that Christmas Eve.

Going to be with family on Christmas Eve, but was not going to be with anyone on Christmas Day this year.... a first for us.

Sooooo..... We just decided to have a big open house, and invited all sorts of folks to come join us. Many folks don't have anyone for any part of the holiday, and it's going to be great to have them with us.

As an adult the family would get together on a different day other than Thanksgiving or Christmas. This got me used to being alone on a specific holiday. At the time I really would have preferred staying home alone.

Right now I am not sure what I want to do. May stay home alone, have a friend over for tea or go out to eat with some friends. Really just do not know.

When I am home alone I try to fix a special meal, give the cat some wet food, watch a couple good movies. For me it is just a matter of what you make of it.

Take care of yourself and remember you are not truly alone.

My husband moved out in October. My boys are older (23-in Air Force, 20 and 16). Number 2 and 3 will be with me in the a.m. and then go to their dad's.
I am volunteering at a community lunch at a church-never done it before, but I am hoping to make it a tradition.
I am struggling terribly with being alone, and hope this helps me.

I was alone once for the holidays and it was very sad for me. But a good thing came out of it that I have since become much more sensitive to others and thier pain. So we invite others over in case they have no where to go, or I make sure to give a special little treat to them or something to let them know they are not really "alone" KWIM?

Yep. I'm working until next Wednesday, and my wife is visiting her out-of-town family.

Unless you count the cat being there as "not alone", despite her not being very good company.

At the times you are alone spoil yourself have a nice meal, maybe a bubble bath, read a good book, watch movies. Even if it is just buying a treat like your favorite candy.

This is the first year DH and I will be alone for Christmas. I was at my wits end earlier this month, having always been used to LOTS of people around for Christmas. However, I'm actually looking forward to this year now I've had a chance to adjust to it.

DH and I have also decided to do a 'no gift' Christmas between the two of us. So there's really no stress there.

Plus with my new diet I can't eat the usual Christmas foods. So I'm not stressing over that. And we've scaled back our Christmas eating/celebrating to make it less stressful as well. So yeah, things are working out much better for me so far this year.

I plan to go for a walk, work on a puzzle, and watch a movie on Christmas Day. I might make church again, and I'll be baking a gluten-free, sugar-free, soy-free, dairy-free apple pie for dessert with our free range chicken.

Forgive me peanut but I had an image in my head of a chicken with a bib around her neck sitting at your chirstmas table sharing your apple pie! lol

Okay, I'll try to use better grammar next time. FWIW, the chicken is almost big enough it could have its own bib and eat with us!!! I didn't know chickens came that big. I'm used to the Superstore variety. This one has got to be a 5 pounder at least!
