    Smile MMM Cinnamon Ornaments "Recipe"

    Cinnamon Ornaments

    1 cup cinnamon

    1 Tbsp. cloves

    1 Tbsp. nutmeg

    ¾ cup applesauce

2 Tbsp. white glue (I use Tacky glue)

    ribbon

In a bowl mix the spices. Add applesauce and glue, stirring until well blended. Work mixture until dough is smooth and ingredients are thoroughly mixed. Divide into 4 portions and roll each portion on floured surface to ¼ inch thickness. Cut dough with cookie cutters of desired shapes. Using a straw or toothpick, make a small hole in the top of each ornament. Place on wire racks and allow to dry at room temp for several days. (For more uniform drying, turn ornaments over once each day.) Or, you can dry them in the oven for several hours on lowest heat on your oven.

Thread ribbon through holes to form garland. Makes approximately 32 two-inch ornaments.

These smell wonderful, but they are for decoration only-do not eat!

Chelle, Thank you! My son made these in class 2 years ago and I wanted the recipe but never got it. They still to this day smell when I hang them on my tree!

I have been doing these for years, they are great. It's a fun thing for kids to do.....
A couple of tips.... Use lots of glue.... instead of 2 tbsn, use about 6 and make your holes and features large and deep as these will shrink.... I dry them in the food dehydrator and they are done in about an hour and I have less shrinkage........ Do gingebread cutouts, put holes in the hands and join with raffia, paint with a little paint or puffy fabric paint to add features....makes a nice garland.......

Thanks for the bump Michelle. I have lots of cinnamon that needs using up (one of those big containers from bj's) and want to make some for dd. She made me a pig & sheep in grade school years ago and they are still hanging in the kitchen, lol. They don't smell "good" anymore but still look cute & bring back memories. Thought it would be kind of cute to return the favor and make her some.

oops, need to put applesauce & glue on the grocery list.
