Default Christmas Tree - Great Decoration or Horrible Nuisance?

As we start thinking about holiday decorating (yes, I realize that many of you have already begun while I am still contemplating it) I'm curious about your feelings about Christmas trees. Dh LOVES the Christmas tree. I, personally, can't stand it. I love the way it looks once it is all decorated, but it really just is a nuisance to me. (Go ahead...call me Grinch right now!) I need to water it and vacuum under it, etc. So, a Christmas tree is not an essential part of my holiday decorating, but I get it because it is important to dh and I know he would do the same if the situation were reversed. What about you?

This will be dh and my 14th married Christmas. We've actually had several years when we did not get a Christmas tree (going out of town, a 15 month old who would have destroyed a tree, no money, and other reasons on various years) and I was surprised at how much I did not miss it! Last year we left town on Christmas Day for 10 days, so for the first time ever we had an artificial tree and again I was amazed at how quickly I got used to that, too. As our kids grow older, though, they remember the memories we've made decorating the tree and so now it is something that we do for them. I do enjoy looking at the ornaments and remembering where or who they came from, etc., so I guess it's not just for the kids. But I know what you mean when you say it is a nuisance!

Well, i feel the same way. I wish we could scale back the size of the tree at least. I love the way it looks when it is all done and decorated. I am a bit of a grinch, and i take it down the day after Christmas. I just wish we could scale the size down...i hate the mess and the amount of room it takes. But dh loves having a big ol tree, so we get a big ol tree.

I love the tree once it's up. I hate putting it up and taking it down. Mine is artificial. Everyone helps for about 5 minutes and then I am left alone to finish. It takes hours (okay I take a Pepsi and Candy break or two). I want the tree fairy to come and just zap it into place. It wouldn't be the same without it though, gotta have the tree. SO couldn't care less if we did not have any decorations.

I finally finished putting mine up today. I love having one, if I don't have one it doesn't feel like Christmas.

Ok, I guess I'm a Grinch too--kind of! You should see our tree, it is so small and it gets smaller each year! I just find it a hassle to dig out the decorations, keep it watered and pick up the pine needles until June! But, once its up I love it, I always take it down on Jan. 1 and get everything put away for another year.

It's not lighting the tree that fills my heart with Christmas spirit......It's the light in the face of my children when we decorate it together and turn off the lights and "WOW MOM !!!!!!!! "
I don't even look at the tree at that moment, I am looking at the light in their faces...... One of lifes pleasures to me... The tree, yes it's a bother, but it's worth the trouble to light a child's face !!!!

I miss having a tree. We only had artificial trees when I was growing up but that was fine with me. Now dh and I only have a small tabletop tree. After Christmas I'm going to buy a tree for next year.
