    Default Gifts under $5

I thought we could list gift items that would cost under $5. This would be store bought and not homemade.

This is for adults as well as children.

I picked up some awesome spiderman activity books for Zachary for $1 at the dollar store. They also had some jumbo crayons. I picked stickers and a mini backpack of plastic animals and a frog necklace that was also a pen.

At Walgreens they have a sale that ends today on Matchbox Hero cars for .89. There was a coupon in a past magazine for buy 1 get 1 free, so I picked up 2 for .89 today.

Walmart has Shrek on VHS for $5. I picked that up today for Dakota.

At www.christianbook.com they have lots of CD's and cassettes (Christmas music, Christian music, and some with stories) for $.49 and $.99. I also picked up some sets there: a nursery rhyme cassette with mini activity book for $.99. There are stationary sets and books there for under $5, as well.

Other under-$5 ideas I've bought this year:

    - puzzle books and pens (dollar store) for DH's Grandma

    - scrapbook stickers and diecuts

    - holiday angel-shaped picture frames (gifts from DD to her grandparents... with, of course, a picture of her in them!)

    - a Playstation II sampler game -- $5 at WalMart-- it plays demos of several new games. This is a stocking stuffer for DH.

WalMart also has a set with a coffee mug and a mug warmer for $2.50. You can also use those warmers for jar candles, so you could add an inexpensive candle to that set and have a nice gift for very little money.

Thanks for this list. I need to buy a $5 gift for Lauren. Her preschool is hiring a Santa to deliver gifts to the kids on the 18th, and I need to get her something for that amount.

When I was growing up, one thing Santa would put in our stocking that was a special treat was nuts.
Pastacios (sp?) and almonds are favorites.
How about a certificate for a movie rental and a bag of microwave popcorn?

I pick up the walgreens specials to make sets--nail files, clippers, polish, trial size moisturizer and polish removal. Also, a stocking with chapstick, a brush, trial size hairspray etc.

A package of dollar store stationary and a book of postage stamps.

A plastic character cup with matching pencil, memo book, candies etc in it.

A holiday ornament, add an ornament hanger from AC Moore for $1.50 and make it really stand out.

A box of chocolates. (As in "Life is like a..." sorry, couldn't resist)

Last year a bunch of extended family showed up last minute so I bought a pound of fresh ground coffee and a box of clementines for each family to take home (all were adults).

Fix a flat--the stuff for flat car tires--I have bought that for everyone--everyone thought it was a great idea and I got points for being thoughtful! A nice ice scraper, a gc for a car wash, wrapped up with a nice air freshener. Every other year I get dh Rain X, it helps repel water from glass on cars, but he uses it on his ski goggles too.

Do they have a hobby or sport?
I've bought dh fix a flat for his bike, and the handwarmers (squeeze the pack and it activates heat) for when he goes skiing,
Special warm ski socks and a pair of sock liners.

There are lots of things out there--just gotta look outside the box-I mean mall--I mean think--you know!!!! -----Kellie
