The most wonderful Christmas present of all
It was the absolute best. We never get any reaction out of either boys (Down syndrome and autistic).
Well Christmas morning, we have to wait until Bob gets home from work to open the gifts. (We had gotten Michael a new keyboard. His old one ate up batteries like crazy.) So Bob gets home, and we put the keyboard on the table, covered up. Michael doesn't like wrapping paper. I accidentally touched a button and the look on Michael's face was priceless. He grinned frm year to year and never stopped smiling all day yesterday.
We then moved to the living room and ds#1 is opening up his gifts. No re-action until he opened his electronic chess/checkers game and then. It was amazing to watch the transformation take place. Bob and I had tears in our eyes, it was wonderful. It was the first time in almost 16 years we seen any re-action on his face.
What a wonderful gift to get as parents - reaction from both boys, on the same day and all day long.

What was so neat about it, was that this is the very first Christmas we have gotten reaction from all 3 of the kids. Dd just reacts over everything, but to have all 3 - truly a miracle for our family.

That is so beautiful.
Aren't those keyboards awesome? Best gift idea we have bought for our children. I still swear that it is the key that opened up so much for Zachary.
We picked up a tape recorder with a voice warper for Zachary this year and he loves it. It really encourages vocalization.
Thank you for sharing your joy. That *is* a fantastic gift, cj.
I can only imagine how much that must have made you feel. I know that my kids smiling is the best medicine for what ails me--no matter what the situation.
I'm so glad you all had a fantastic day.
