I could use some Christmas spirit right now.
Normally, our tree is up the day after Thanksgiving, and I drive DH batty with all my decorations and outdoor lights. My shopping is usually almost done by now & I'm partially done with wrapping. I'm usually singing carols and loving the entire holiday season.
This year, because of all the mess with our house and all, I don't even have our tree up. I have two strings of lights and garland on my front porch. I have some greenery and lights in the kitchen. I have bags stashed everywhere with presents, lots more shopping to do, and not one single thing wrapped. DH had promised me that we'd get the tree up today before he went to work, but, apparently one piece either broke or went missing in the move, and we couldn't put it up.
Tommorow we're going to have to shop for a new tree.
The carpet just got installed Monday, so the house is still a mess. The boxes from the flooded rooms can now be unpacked, if I ever find a few free minutes. In the meantime, you can barely walk through my foyer and livingroom again, because we've moved the boxes for the 100th time.
The house, the lack of Christmas spirit, and my teething, grumpy, child have just put me in a crabby mood tonight. I've never in my life been ready for the holidays to be over before they even begin, but that's how I feel right now. Thanks for letting me vent~ I'm sure in a day or two I'll find my Christmas spirit and wonder why I ever bothered to post this, but I needed to vent right now.

Amy, I'm nearly 60 and I know one thing for sure. That is that things aren't always the same. I love the holidays too but there have been years, generally when my kids were little, when things were overwhelming due to work and life and I just let Christmas drift. It didn't get far though because I always caught the fever, usually just before Christmas day when I'd run around happily preparing for the big day and celebrations.
I hope this happns for you too. If it doesn't, don't worry, there's always next year. Just make it a tiny celebration with your DH and daughter, it will still be special.

I haven't found mine yet but I know it's there, just biding it's time.

Hope you ladies find a little something that makes your heart smile. Don't have to do it all and don't have to feel guilty about it either. Sometimes simple is best and reminds us of what's really important, our health & love of family & friends. The rest is just pretty wrapping paper.
Wrapping you, my friends, a warm hug.

Amy I'm laughing *with* you here ok.....I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one that doesn't have her tree up yet....

I'm sure once you get things a bit more squared away you'll get in the spirit. It's hard not to when you have the little ones.

it is hard to get into it this year for me too. we haven't thought about christmas shopping yet. we havent' wrapped a thing i don't think. We have a tree up and decorated, but that's it. I did get an annoying singing wreath put up outside. But i am already counting the days before i get to take it down. I want the space back. It isn't that i don't look forward to the kids excitement and so on, i just want the room back. so i can move with out worrying about knocking down an ornament...
Hugs, the spirit will come, in time.
