home made gifts
Okay I want to know what you guys think really think about homemade gifts...
Here's the story;
I made gifts for all the grandmothers for mother day, I panted the kids fingers and we put the finger prints on pots (the fingers are stems for flowers) and then I painted the flowers.. after it was all done I planted little plants in each and will give them out tomorow.
My husband said to me you need to go get my mother a gift for mothers day and I replied we made everyone gifts and he just looked and said you are giving them as presents...
SO I am looking to see what you all think about home made gifts do you like to get them or not??
Eileen
p.s. I have a picture but have no idea how to get it here.. any ideas? if you can tell me who I will post a picture of the pot...

I think what you described sounds absolutely precious and is a wonderful gift! I like homemade gifts - it makes me feel good knowing that it was made especially for me.

I think your husband is just in the "store bought" gift mindset. I know I'm working myself out of that. I want to do a lot more homemade gifts this year than I have in the past. I wonder if people will think "gee this is all I get? She didn't even "spend" any money". But I do think that most people do LIKE homemade gifts. Especially the grandparents. And I also know everyone already has to much STUFF which I why I want to do lots of food items...things that gets used and don't sit around. Maybe buy something small to go with it until he's more into the idea or else stick to your original idea.

When I used to make gifts for my mother, I always thought she was just acting like she liked my gifts. Now that I am "Nana", I really do enjoy all the little gifts the girls make for me. I have two tons too much of everything else but, I save all of their little gifts. They are so much more special to me than store bought things. Anyway, how the heck would your DH know what a grandma wants for Mother's Day? LOL!

We do a lot of homemade gifts that I usually give with something else. I went to a baby shower today that I made a big basket for that included a homemade quilt, but also had store bought gifts in it. For father's day last year we gave dss grandfather a bbq apron with his handprints on it-yellow, green and red for condiment colors, and in the pocket was a photo of him making it and a little bbq cook book.

I really like homemade gifts. I would love to have gotten a flower pot with my childs hand print on it.
With homemade gifts you can bet you won't have one just like it already.
If dh still thinks a storebought present is necessary, stop by the drug store and get her a cheap but pretty smelling hand lotion. Moms can always use more of that.
Good luck today and try not to let it get to you."Success on any major scale requires you to accept responsibity."

Homemade gifts are gifts that come from the heart. Any store bought gift will most likely get put on a shelf and not talked about. Send a home made gift and it will be the center of conversation long after the holiday is past and it will be put on display for all to see.

I like homemade gifts. You can go to a store & buy anything & it doesn't have to mean a thing. But if you make someone a gift, you have that person in mind, & it takes longer to make something & it means a lot more to that person. I have always prefer a homemade over a bought one anyday. When my kids were little I enjoy their homemade gifts a lot. They always seem to surprise me. Now that the are teens they still do it and I still love it.

I agree--homemade is best! My other favorite is something from a garage sale. My MIL got me a piece of depression glass from a garage sale for Christmas this past year. she bought me some other things, but this was definitely my favorite!
