    Default Company Christmas Parties....

Does your company or your spouses company hold these and if so are spouses included?

I am kinda put off this year because my husbands new company is having a party for the employees only no spouses allowed. I just feel weird about that. So I am wondering if other company's ask their employees this time of year to go to a event without their spouses? I always have gone with him to these events in the past, it was a chance to get to know his co-workers ect.

Dh's company used to have the most wondeful Christmas parties!!!...They held them at a beautiful country club and we had a choice of lobster and filet mignon or prime rib, open bar, a live band, and all the spouses got a gift, and I mean a very expensive gift, one year it was a set of Longerberger Christmas mugs...but since the economy has had a down turn, they stopped the parties...everyone still gets a bonus and they send a Poinsetta or a ham to the house, so that is very genorous...but I miss the parties, dh and I had a lot of fun getting dressed to the nines and dining and dancing!!!

Dh's employer includes spouses in every event. I think a company should forego having a party, if they don't include spouses.

Dh's employer used to have a party and spouses and children were invited. They would have live music, a dance floor, and tons of food. Then they changed to taking the employees out to eat for dinner on a Saturday night and spouses and children were not invited. Now they just hand them their bonus at work and leave it at that.

dh's has a spouses invited party. Most often the children are not invited because it usually has to be later in the evening.

Honestly I kinda am offended. I just think that if they can't afford to have the spouses go then they should forego the party. I guess it also bothers me to have to sit here alone all day that day because he will be working and then sit here alone all night too because of the party. I am thinking this may not be a "family friendly" company which would be a turn off for me.

Our library system held a Christmas luncheon for all the staff and for the Friends of the Library and the Board. No spouses were invited to it because it would just cost too much to do it that way.

I wouldn't have a problem at all with it if it were a lunch. But this is a night out to a comedy club where there no dinner just drinks being served.

Oh no, there is no way Matthew would be going to that company party without me......you can't keep your relationship healthy by encouraging your spouse to go out with "co-workers" to drink.......... While I trust my husband 100%, I do not trust all the hooches in this world......JMHO

You know if My hudband hadn't just started this job a few weeks ago i know he woulnd't go either. He just doesn't want to seem anti-social, but I admit i am a little upset over the whole thing. But what can you do.

I don't know you or your husband, but my foot would be going down!!!!!! I would tell him how you feel and then suggest that ya'll invite some co-workers to your house for a get together......have everyone bring a little something and just play games.......You will only have to spend a few dollars and he will still be able to seem social to his co-workers. If he is only going because he doesn't want to seem anti-social, if I was him I would tell them that he doesn't go out without his wife........a family man, he just might be surprised how many others would not go if someone else took that first step in saying no..........I will keep you in my thoughts........

Oh! I think our DH's work for the same company. The stories just get better every year. Last year, and the year before- they had employees only parties- usually at some bar or like last year's at Hooters. They were after work on a Friday night and employees were required to go.

This year, they didn't do an employee Christmas party. They had a Christmas party that was by invite only, mostly mangement and those who work in the office. Spouses were invited to this year's of those select few who were chosen to go. It was at a restaurant, open bar all night long- choice of dinner included filet mignon, chicken cordon bleu or fish. While they were able to afford that, they decided they couldn't afford to give anyone but mangement bonuses this year. Infact, DH had to lay 8 people off. It's a crock of crap if you ask me. Either do it right, or not at all. So I totally know how you feel because I have been in your shoes since DH started working there. I'm sure everyone here is sick of my yearly veny about it.
