Christmas question for adult eyes only...
I was just wondering how many of your children believe in Santa Claus and how old they were when they found out the truth about who brings the presents.
This whole question was sparked when 2 of the kids that come down to my Storytime got into it over if Santa was real or not. I had to tell them both that everyone has a right to believe what they want to and there was no "winner" in the arguement because feeling would be hurt so everyone would lose.

Interesting question, Debbie!
DD isn't really old enough yet to care-- she sees Santa everywhere and doesn't really seem to think anything of him. She didn't want to sit on his lap, though, so we all ended up in the photo with Santa this year.

My kids have never believed in Santa (or the tooth fairy for that matter.) My almost 5 year old keeps telling me "Santa's not real, Mom. People just like to pretend to be him." I tell him he is right, but that he is not to tell his friends that, just in case they do believe!

we were told there was no santa - but I thought it was kind of a fun idea so I told my kids there was one - my mom told them when they were 2,3,&4 that there was no santa - it was a real bummer and wrecked alot of fun for bob and me.

My ds was 11 when he stopped believing in Santa, but we still give in the spirit of Christmas to those less fortunate than us thus keeping the Santa Magic alive

While i wish I hadn't ever started the Santa idea all of our children still believe, our oldest almost 10 is starting to give me some of those questions that would make me think she doesn't believe but i think she fears if she admit to not beliving that she won't get anything at all for Christmas.

My niece is 8 and she still believes, but I think because of what she hears her friends say, she is starting to question Santa. I know my family will continue the Santa tradition as long as she believes and when she asks, we'll tell her the truth.
Mike's nieces are 13, 11 and 8 and the 13 year old, hasn't believed in a few years, the 11 year old still believes and the 8 year old, doesn't believe in him at all--says there's no way he could cover that much ground in one night so he's not real!!!!

I don't think Alex believes anymore , but she doesn't want to let her dad and me down so she plays that she still does. The dogs would pitch a fit if Santa came in to our house so I don't think they do. As long as they get their gifts, they are happy.

Both my boys believed till they were about 9 or 10.
The tooth fairy too!
And yes Virginia, there WAS a Santa. (Santa means saint)
St. Nicholas, whose feast day we still celebrate on Dec. 6th, from which our Santa Claus comes... was a true person and saint of the church... and his spirit of giving, which came about through the gift of God to us in His Son Jesus... still goes on. And that is what my boys believe now that they are grown.

My youngest stopped believing on her own when she was four. She was at pre-school and asked Santa for a Barbie car. Santa didn't tell me so no Barbie car. When she didn't get what she asked for she reasoned there was no Santa. I don't know how the older DD came to believe in no Santa.

My ds was about 9 as was my daughter when she really found out there was no Santa. When they started questioning me about it about 7 or 8 I told them that Santa was like the spirit of Christmas, he was giving and loving. However my Kids have always known the true meaning of Christmas.
I would say let them believe as long as they would like, we all grow up to soon in my opinion.Jeanna
