    Post Gingerbread House

    Gingerbread House

    1 stick butter
    1/3 cup brown sugar
    1/3 cup molasses
    3 1/2 cups flour
    1 tablespoon cinnamon
    1 tablespoon ginger
    1/2 tablespoon cloves
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    dash salt
    1/3 cup water

    Cream together butter and brown sugar. Add molasses. Combine dry ingredients. Add alternately with water until thick dough forms. Form into a disk, wrap in plastic and chill until cool all the way through. Roll out onto a cookie sheet. Cut out design. Bake at 350 for 25-35 minutes. Do not brown.

    Royal Icing
    3 egg whites
    1.5 pounds confectioners sugar

    Slowly beat the confectioners sugar into the egg whites. Mix until thick. Add water if necessary to thin.

    This is one of my favorite things to do each year at Christmas time. We've had success and then there have been times the gingerbread house has been lopsided, fell over or just didn't come out the way I wanted it to. It doesn't matter to the kids though, just as long as there is a gingerbread house they can sneak candies off of.

    Every year I think about making one like I've done in years past. There's always something else happening & I don't have enough time too before Mostly house cleaning ...never ends!

    Then stressing myself out causing migraines & cooking all the oven heat then doesn't help or my thinking!

    I have a cookie Wilton pattern (I bought @ the thrift shop ) it has cookie cutters in a STAR shape of different sizes which you stack each one on top of the other & decorate.

    I've never made this yet! I misplaced the kit & then found it in the summertime, maybe this year I'll finally get to bake it
