Wow Melanie, that sounds wonderful!!!! Is this a traditional menu of your families?
Is your family German? I had red cabbage once before at a german resteraunt (loved it) and have never made it myself. Do you make that yourself ? recipe?

We're having organic leg ham, prawns, lobster tails, potato salad, garden salad, fresh asparagus, sliced melons and boiled eggs.
Desert will be something cooked by my son. He's doing two deserts, one cold, which will probably be creme brulee, and one hot, which might be plum pudding with brandy sauce.
I'll have spiced nuts out for nibbles when people arrive and will serve icy cold champagne before the meal and cold white burgendy with it.
We always have a cold Christmas lunch, so I guess that's traditional for us. The ex-carnivores can't get used to having a christmas without ham, so I've ordered an organic free range one for them. So I guess we're in a transition stage with our Christmas lunch.
What are you having , Darlene?

That stuffed Pork roast sounds much better than my ham....
What do you stuff it with?

I wasn't able to find an organic ham, but I did find an uncured (no nitrates/nitrites) natural ham (no antibiotics, hormones, artificial colors, etc). Oh, and it's spiral sliced.
So we'll have ham,
Roasted organic chicken with lemon and garlic,
Roasted oniony carrots & potatoes
Cheesy scalloped potatoes
Carrots vichy (sweet)
...something green (spinach salad? asparagus?)
Rolls
...and some sort of dessert.

I don't know. No real tradition here but usually have a pork roast. I'll be taking a poll to see what everyone wants. Still not sure who will be here.Originally posted by forestdale

We're having turkey. Christmas dinner is usually just like Thanksgiving dinner here. The kids are just starting to like ham, but Gabe isn't fond of it really, so we don't ever have ham on Christmas. I was considering a nice roast this year, but the turkey was so cheap that I decided to get that.

I stuff my roast with chestnut stuffing.
Actually, I am from Germany that has been the menu in my family for 30+ years.
My husband is in the Air force, he was stationed in GE 13 years ago and that's where we met.
I use the red cabbage out of the jar, I tried to make it myself once, liked the jar one better.
But I do add apple slices to the cabbage.

not sure what my mom is making for dinner. dh will probably stay home when we go over to my folks house in the afternoon so we'll have our christmas dinner on christmas eve. ( he gets annoyed by my family sometimes so sometimes he goes with us and sometimes he stays home, but his family annoys me so it evens out)
anyway, i'll make a ham for christmas eve and mashed potatoes and corn and peas. not sure if we'll have dessert or not. might just be icecream and cookies.wife to carl

It's just us again, but Bob came home with a really big angus beef roast he picked up at the Bag 'n Save on his way home from work. It was marked down but it looks really good and I'm going to splurge a little and cook it in wine with fresh mushrooms and pearl onions -- maybe a few baby carrots. I'm sure it's too big for the crockpot, so will probably have to roast it in the oven. I haven't thought about what else yet, but I have a bag of cranberries in the freezer -- they were really cheap after Thanksgiving. Had pumpkin cheesecake for Thanksgiving -- think I will try something else this time.
We don't eat pork anyway, but I would have problems eating pork on a holiday that is supposed to be in honor of a Jew -- but that's just me.

our christmas menu - it rarely changes from year to year
to start, grapefruit segments
main
Turkey for the carnivores, stuffed Aubergine for the veggies
sausages wrapped in rashers ( also vege sausage wrapped in vege rashers)
Roast and mashed potatoes
chestnut stuffing
Sprouts, cauliflower, and roast parsnips
red cabbage and apple
Carrot and turnip mash
yorkshire puddings
