Need Christmas gift ideas for my son and his wife
I'm writing out my holiday gift list and I've come up with ideas for everyone except my son and his wife. He is in the Navy and stationed in VA right now. He and his wife live off base in an apt. This will be their first Christmas together (they were married in March). I'd like to buy one gift for both of them, but I'm clueless.... anyone have any ideas?

I know when I was young and a military wife funds were short. I would suggest a gift certificate for somewhere nice to eat that they would not normally splurge on for themselves.
I know that will not be the entire amount, but that could be part of the gift.Robbin

Maybe a gift certificate for them to do something together that they wouldn't otherwise do or be able to afford? Like a day spa or a night at a hotel or tickets to a show. I know as a military family, they will be apart more than the general population...anything that is something that will bring them closer together and be able to spend more time together would be very nice

Or you could build a basket with movie tickets, zoo tickets, rest. gift certificates and/or other local attractions. They could use the tickets at their leisure and get enjoyment out of the present for quite some time after Christmas.

Is your son stationed at Norfolk? I was thinking they might be close enough to spend a night or two in colonial williamsburg if he is.

Those are some awesome ideas. The only other thing I might add is, if they had a wedding gift registry, and they didn't get all they registered for (i.e. pieces of dinnerware, etc) then you might get something like that. However, I love the GC ideas!!

I know one of the nicest gifts that my ex and I ever received together was a handmade quilt his mom bought us. That might be a nice idea.

You can purchase an Entertainment Book for VA for about $25.00, it's loaded with coupons to different restaurants, anything from $$ off to get a meal free, discount movie tickets and a whole lot of things in the area they live in. As far as the rest of it... maybe a "Together Kit" with tapered candles, candle holders, place mats, napkins and a cookbook for the nights they are together... (or where it is your daughter-in-law... make a cookbook with your family recipes and leave room for additions)... just a thought.
When I got married, I received a basket with candles, candle holders, cookbook, lotion and a few things my crazy cousin slipped in to the basket that if her mom had seen them she would have fainted. 8 years and a 'big D' later, I still have the candleholder and cookbook.. I love it!
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

I love my entertainment book, maybe get the book and a gc for a nice place in it - a hotel in Virginia Beach even. My mom generally gives us a ski weekend at our favorite vermont hotel and takes the kids for the weekend for our Christmas gift.
