salt dough or bread dough ornaments. for the last few years, i've cut out the kids' handprints from christmasy scrapbook paper. then there are all the little ornaments the kids make at school. i have a bunch of cute reindeer and wreath ornaments that the kids have brought home from school. you can thread tri tipped beads onto pipecleaners to make candy canes.

What a lot of great ideas! All mine have already been listed. I started off with no ornaments, made a whole bunch of these and slowly traded them out. Our tradition is to go to Walmart after Christmas when everything is on a huge sale and pick out one each. My kids don't know, but are building their own ornament collection that I will give to them when they are grown.

a friend of my moms gave me the idea to build an ornament collection for my son. so each year, starting with his 1st christmas, I buy him a snowflake ornament they are all different and usually i get them at the craft store and paint them or get one with a pic frame. this way when he starts his own home he will have 21 snowflake ornaments to hang on the tree. i am pregnant now so my daughter will get snowmen for her lifetime. i need to get a hat box or something to keep his separateReba

Take old coloured flyers - cut them into strips and make a ring/circle with them. Using a glue stick, close the ring. Take another strip of flyer and put it through the first loop to make a link/chain effect and keep going until you get a huge long colourful garland. Its very frugal and using what you already have. Other alternative is to go to Dollarama and buy a small book of construction paper and make this garland as well.

Just about anything looks good sprayed with glittery spray paint! I would give second-consideration to anything (non-perishable) that I was about to throw in the trash. Glitter paint is the the duct tape of the crafting world!
