Christmas surprise!
We had an old family Bible from the 1800s refinished during the summer and it cost a lot of money. We were expecting contributions from people in the family. I have 5 brothers and sisters. So we took it to my nephew's wedding in September (to show everyone and give back to my uncle) and everyone promised money, but none showed...except Dad (it wasn't even his family Bible!). We figured it was just too many things going on at one time, so we emailed everyone when we got home. One brother keeps phoning up and asking, but doesn't send anything. He just forgets all the time.
Anyways, dsis#3, who is the tightest of the tight, sent me a Christmas package I wasn't expecting. They've been really tight this year, what with two kids in university and her being sick. Tucked down the side of the box, in an envelope I didn't even see (dh found it) was a cheque for $200! Means we're only out $50 on having it redone! Dh is so happy. So am I! But I feel a bit awkward taking the money. Dh grabbed the cheque real quick!2012 Challenges

What a wonderful, generous gift. I don't think you should feel bad taking the check. Obviously having this Bible redone meant a lot to your sister and she wanted to show her appreciation and help with the cost by sending you the money. BTW, my DH would've grabbed the check real quick, also.

How thoughtful of your sister! She must have known the stress you were feeling due to the restoration cost. What a generous gift.
