No holiday bonus from employer but Dh as a mailman gets treats here and there from his patrons. This year wasn't as glorious as years past since he just switched routes but it was so nice to be thought of by those who wanted to/could give him something. This was the year of dunkin donuts, lol, he must have gotten 7 dd cards. Other gifts were cookies, candy, cash, lottery tickets(won$24) & a couple of the cards came in coffee mugs. All very much appreciated :yippee:
Dh gets one every year. It's sizeable. When we got married 5 years ago the first was 5k, and had stayed that much until last year, it was 7.5k before taxes. This year was still generous, not as before, but we very much appreciate it. Were given a 1k gift card (for which we bought all our Christmas gifts with) and then 4k with no taxes taken out. We were told this would be the last year they are doing this.
The first 4 years we blew through the money, caught up on bills, bought stuff we didn't know we needed.. you know the drill. Last year every penny went to principal on my car. This year we bought Christmas with the gift card and put 3k in our emergency fund, and I'll be using that last 1k on a washer, dryer and dishwasher. All 3 have decided to go kaput on me at the same time.
I know we've been extremely fortunate to be getting all of this, believe me, we are appreciative. His company is owned by some great people. We'd feel that way if they didn't give bonus at all.
I work for the largest hospital in my area and our Christmas bonus is ((((drum roll)))) A TURKEY. I am grateful for the turkey but a little $$$ would make me grateful too .
Dh doesn't get a Christmas bonus but throughout the year his boss will give him a bonus every now and again anywhere from $100 to a $500 bonus.
Dhs father just passed away on Dec. 8th...he had only just turned 65 on Oct 28th , it was quite sudden not to mention the shock. Dhs boss paid for Dhs flight from Toronto to British Columbia where dh stayed for 9 days. Dh was in Toronto for work at the time that is why he didn't fly from home here in Quebec.
Dh always gets a $25 to gift certificate to a grocery store. When I worked there 8 years ago it was the same thing. Sometimes they will get us some discount coupons to local business' too. We are thankful for the gift especially since there almost 3000 employees and it costs them alot just for that.
~Well DH doesn't get a 'Holiday" bonus but at the end of each quarter he gets profit sharing money. Usually $100-300 after taxes. We bank it and don't treat it as extra money we can spend.~
DH did not get a bonus. Last year I got a $100.00 bonus, which was great, but this year I got a $20.00 credit on my account at work. Um, I do appreciate being given anything, but I can't help but feel a little bitter considering how much of myself I have put into the company in the past year and how horrible the work environment is getting (business owner is the same but has hired new office managers, but owner is the one responsible for giving bonuses).
Gabe gets a sizeable bonus each year, but it's in the spring close to raise time and not at Christmas. The amount varies, but there's a percentage range based on performance and current salary, that dictates what it amounts to. We typically put it toward debt reduction. It's very much appreciated, but considering his dedication to his work, it's also well deserved. (ie. his skillset and being on call 24/7) We are also fortunate that his job sometimes gives awards of appreciation/recognition throughout the year. That more than covered any holiday expenses. I'm extremely thankful, but there's a price to pay for the price they pay if you kwim.
dh got a $40.00 gift certificate for Walmart for Thanksgiving (bought snacks since Thanksgiving was already bought) and $40.00 for Christmas (I used for Christmas dinner). They also paid all of his past vacation and sick days, as they are going to a different system in Jan. It wasn't really a bonus but $1400 is a bonus either way you look at it. He lost $600.00 to taxes.
I was given a $400 bonus last year. Pay day is Tuesday and I think we will be getting something again this year. I'm going to put 1/2 toward cc debt and 1/2 into savings to start my ef.
My DH got a $200 Christmas bonus yesterday, but the restaurant is also closed two days for Christmas, and no one gets paid for those days. They don't even offer any paid vacation or sick days. Ever. We are very glad to get the $200, though. Last year it was $100.
Dh gets a $20 gift card. I do not get a bonus but they do pay us our paycheck that we should get on Dec. 30 early, when Christmas break starts. Which is nice on Dec. 20 but starts to hurt around Jan 10 since we won't get paid again until Jan. 15.
We're both teachers so we aren't teaching but dh spends a big chunk of the time off grading these projects, the Canadian Experience, that he makes due right before break, about 100 to grade altogether. I will be working on three assignments for grad school classes that I need to finish, a paper, a portfolio and a powerpoint presentation.
My employer gave us a spiral ham this year. We are eating it for Christmas dinner. We usually get $25 gc to Walmart.
DH's employer used to give them $200-$300, but a couple of years ago they stopped that. Now he gets a $25 gc to a local grocery store.
I am not complaining because it is something that we can use.
