Default Christmas is coming - what to do, what to do!

I've considered making presents for everyone rather than buying them. I even considered putting tags that said something like "a handmade hawkins creation". My husband's family is kind of, hmmm, they have a lot of money. They always give bigger Christmas gifts and even though I know that they love things from the heart, I still feel like our presents would be inferior to theirs. I shouldn't feel this way but I do. Do you think I should maybe leave off the cute little tags?

Also, is there a place I can find 'tightwad' Christmas ideas? Thanks!

Hmmm...there have been threads on that subject here. I hear u about the relatives who like to throw money around at Christmas.

Do you have any skills that you are particularly good at? Often the way to combat the inferiority issue is to give them something you made, that you are very good at.

For example, I sew, so I give sewn gifts. Either a quilt or a piece of clothing that is an original design.

I also do traditional rug hooking, and have given some original design rugs as gifts.

Plus I do hardanger embroidery, and have given pieces done in original designs as gifts.

However, I have one couple I do not give to because he thinks "homemade = inferior". We just simply quit exchanging gifts because I could not keep up to their level of expenditure.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Oh Jean, you were actually of great help. I'm a sewer myself and although they wouldn't appreciate the things I typically make (cloth menstruation pads) I'm also great at sewing patchwork type pillow cases and all kinds of other goodies like that. That's a great idea. Thanks!
