I have run out of ideas
We are having a books Christmas. All gifts will be some sort of book. My kids love books, so this will not be a disappointing Christmas. My only problem? I have written out a list of what books I want to get for my youngest 5 girls, but for my boys I have no ideas. My ds' are 12 and 13, my oldest is into comic books and superheroes and my younger ds is into computer graphics and things, and I have no ideas for books they would like. What are some series that your kids like that are that age?

That sounds like a great idea for Christmas. I'm afraid I don't have a lot of ideas, but will watch this thread to see what books others come up with. My 10-year-old DS is almost done with the last Harry Potter book, and I am not sure what he will want to read next. He loved the HP books, and tends to get in a "rut" once he starts a series. He read all of the HP books in one year, which makes me very happy, but what next?

Amazon will let you search by age. Do a Google search for children's book lists and you will find several age specific, organized into different topics, and probably by gender as well. I have been doing a project for school so I'm into books for that age group.

~How about the Eragon series? My DH likes the books and my son loves the movie. Boys seem to love dragons. My brother liked "The way things work", The Guiness Book of World Records and Calvin & Hobbes comic books when he was a pre-teen.~

I think the Harry Potter series is one for all ages.
I also don't think you would go wrong looking in the Sci Fi section.Wife to Kenneth
Mom to Joey, age 17
Mom to Kendra, age 9

I know Eragon is huge or you could do a classic like Lord of the Rings.

ask the folks at the book store. the sales people in teh children's dept should be able to help. they usually know the kids' book and the young adult books pretty well. there are a few different series about dragons that ds likes, and one series called teh ranger's apprentice that he likes really well too. he's 11 but has always liked book above his reading level so your 12 and 13 year old may like them too.

~I looked up "The Way Things Work" on Amazon so you could check it out. [ame="http://www.amazon.com/New-Way-Things-Work/dp/0395938473/ref=pd_sim_b_1_img/102-0910832-3844125?ie=UTF8&qid=1190835066&sr=8-2"]Amazon.com: The New Way Things Work: David Macaulay, Neil Ardley: Books[/ame] It's a completely illustrated(with mammoths!, you'll see), funny book explaining the workings of 100's of things from air conditioners to hot air balloons to engines to windmills. My brother REALLY loved this book, that's why I'm plugging it so strongly!~

CS Lewis (The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, etc)
Anything on how to.
A great book on paper airplanes and the actual engineering behind them.
And, don't die of shock, he actually started reading things like The Scarlet Letter - and liked them (Bleah!!!)
Clive Cussler and whoever wrote Jurrasic Park.
Ask each of them what he thinks the other would like?
Ask their English teachers?
