Default Help for the Gift Challenged

I need a few suggestions for gift for my BIL.
He has a sailboat and likes to be outdoors. He also usually buys whatever he wants, so he is difficult to buy gifts for.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Also, I need to make a homemade gift for my mother and sister. We do this every year and I usually do something with a picture of my kids. I've already made scrapbooks and ornaments out of microscope slides..anyone else have ideas? I can't knit or crochet...and my sewing isn't the greatest. I think I need to learn to do one of these things so this is a lot easier!

Could you get him a gift card from an outdoors shop? As for the homemade gift you could put a basket together of homemade goodies like cookies or chex mixes or flavored popcorns.

For BIL -- magazine subscription to either some sort of outdoor life, or boating magazines?

Homemade gifts -- no sew fleece blanket or pillow?

homemade beauty products like bath salts, lip gloss, body scrubs? do a search and you'll find tons of recipes.

    Calendars with family photos?

    Bookmarks with family photos?

Chocolate coated pretzels in a Christmas tin from the Dollar Store?

for the bil - a gift card. that way he can get what he wants, and you aren't racking your brain trying to find something he will like or need.

    home made gifts:

homemade bath salts, lotions, candles, or beauty products. here is the place where i get my supplies.

For BIL, what about some warm hiking socks. Does he have a local "outdoors store" that he likes? They would have lots of stuff and your BIL could then exchange the gift if he doesn't care for the item?

For the homemade gift idea, what about painting and lacquering a picture onto one of the wooden trays you can get at a craft shop? Functional, personalized, and not that difficult.
