Hey Again,
Looking for some new ideas for this year's Christmas Eve and Christmas Dinners and was wondering what you all were planning?

We have Christmas Eve dinner here and this is what my mom and I are thinking of serving: pork roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, swedish meatballs, homemade macaroni and cheese, cranberries, a jello, some kind of veggie yet unknown, apple pie, pumpkin pie, and Christmas cookies. We also eat appetizers...shrimp cocktail, herring and crackers, cheese, fruit, hot cider. It looks like a lot of comfort food this year!

Growing up we always had homemade pizza on Christmas eve. Mom would make the dough. I would help her cut up the toppings. Dad, my brother, and I would 'decorate' the pizza. My Dh and I are staying home this year, so I will be making pizza.
On Christmas day, we either had ham or turkey. I do not know what I will make this year.Julie

We always have pretty much the same things each year. It just a tradition. We like knowing what to expect each year.
For Christmas Eve dinner, we always do finger foods. . snacky things. . .sweet & sour meatballs, pigs in a blanket, spiral sandwiches, other finger sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans, chips w/ dip, brownies and cola. (We eat this while watching the old version of A Christmas Carol).
For Christmas Day breakfast, we have a breakfast casserole, bacon, bisquits, orange juice, milk or hot coffee.
Christmas Day dinner will be spiral glazed ham, sweet potato souffle, green beans w/ bacon, fresh corn off the cob, deviled eggs, pickles, olives, cubed cheese, rolls, coconut cake, apple pie and tea.

Christmas Eve, we put out the luminarias, then have savory appetizers, then get ready for church.
This year's appetizers are crackers with TGIF spinach dip; pigs in a blanket; mini-quiches; and little crab cakes.
After church, we'll probably have fruitcake.
Christmas dinner will be easy: Black Forest ham, baked potatoes, coleslaw, and more desserts.

For Christmas Eve we have our traditional meal of Shrimp and appetizers , *Prime Rib, garlic mashed potatoes, Italian chopped salad and Sicilian Cassata cake
* thought since this is a frugal board you would all appreciate I try to get most all my meat on sale and was able to get two prime ribs for 30% off. I was thrilled to say the least...lol
For Christmas brunch we will have overnight French toast, homemade cinnamon rolls, fruit , yogurt and granola.
For Christmas Dinner, Ham, scalloped potatoes, salad and cookies etc.

30% off Prime Rib that is impressive! How'd you work that one! Last year i got a $20 gift card for a big grocery store chain. I naively thought I would spring for Prime Rib Roast for Christmas Dinner. didn't think I would get a roast for $20 but i thought I would be able to chip in like $10 and get something for 3 people! Yep I was rudely awakened when I found out that the smallest roast available (about 2.5 lbs) cost around $60!

Settled for Steak instead.

Christmas Eve we have cheese fondue with bread cubes for dipping & a salad. Often have it in the livingroom (coffee table)where we watch the christmas lights & listen to Christmas music & talk as we eat.

Chrismas Day the menu varies as I take a poll to see what everyone wants. The star will either be a ham or a garlic pot roast. Have to have Christmas Crackers at the table so we can all wear our paper crowns.

Christmas Eve is traditionally seafood based for us. This is an Italian/Catholic based tradition of no meat on Christmas Eve. I do open house so the menu for Christmas Eve is on the larger side. Also, the sides and desserts are carried over and used for Christmas Day as well. It is not written in stone but I suspect it will look something like: (laid out buffet style Christmas Eve and sit down style Christmas Day)
Christmas Eve
Picky stuff:
Cheese and cracker tray
spinich dip
crab dip
veggie tray
fruit tray
chips
Meal type stuff:
Seafood salad
Baked, stuffed, clams
One or 2 trays of baked fish (depends on sales)
One tray of fried fish (depends on the sales)
Linguini with clam sauce
Linguini with oil and garlic
Baked angel hair pasta with raisens
Spinich based salad
Stuffed Artichokes
Green bean salad
Pepper Salad
Broccli Rabi
Desserty stuff
4 or 5 types cookies
2 or 3 types of fudge
Struffoli (honey balls)
loaf breads (magi, bannanna, nut, ect)
zappeles (spelling???)
grain pie
bourbon balls
Christmas Day
picky stuff and desserts are repeated
meal type stuff:
ravioli with marinara sauce
baked ziti
Italian sausage
meatballs
fried eggplant
eggplant parmesean
roast beef
zappel bread with sauce
stuffed mushrooms
pepper salad (repeat)

stuffed artichokes (repeat)

OH- homemade tamales, that brings back memeories. When I was a kid my neighbor used to make them and sell them to my mom. MY entire adult life I have beens searching for a tamale like those. Unfortunatly Tamales arent very common in florida. I keep swearing to learn to make my own.

Christmas eve - I always do 2 types of homemade soup. This year it will be homemade vegetable beef and french onion with homemade bread. I also do snacky kinds of things like chili cheese dip, cheese/sausage and crackers, pickle cream cheese roll ups, little smokies in crescent rolls, homemade cookies and candies.
Christmas day - it really depends on everyones mood. I'm thinking ham or steak, twice baked potato, green bean casserole, 7 layer salad, pecan pie, pumpkin roll, chocolate cake and cookies.Dawn
