    Default Need help

I need to find where to find a list of improper shutdowns with times using Windows Vista. I know the date I need, I just need a printed copy to take to court.

Someone broke in and stole some stuff and tried to steal my desktop too and when they unplugged it, it logged as an improper shutdown. I found it once but forgot to plug the printer in to print it and now I can't find the log again. Help please!!

    Look in your log files.
-Or do a search for any files modified on the computer when the event happened.

this will help you find the log file that was created when the computer logged the event.

    Hope this helps.

You can use Vista's "Event Viewer" or "Computer Management" in Administrator tools to read log files or notepad.

This document explains how to read the log files.

When the guy tried to steal the desktop he unplugged everything which made the improper shutdown and the time he did it. This is the verify the time he was in the house and that he had ample time to get back here on foot as unfortunately, the jerk was a guest in my house till about 1 1/2 hours prior to that, which is how he knew where the other items were that he took.
