Windows 7 Install
My son came home to visit this weekend bearing a gift for me, Windows 7 Professional! He knows I'm a computer geek. After a full 24 hours of playing with it, I like it!
My HP laptop came with Vista (32-bit version), and a 64-bit processor, so I was able to clean install 64-bit Windows 7 and gain full functionality of the computer. There were a few issues in finding drivers, but all the 64-bit Vista drivers worked with Windows 7 (for me at least). Now I plan to upgrade to 4gb of ram, as it will now be recognized & usable. Installation took less than an hour, and the only drivers I had to find were my video card, card reader, and HP quick launch buttons (which I chose not to find, they are annoying). All others were found in setup or Windows Update.
My only complaint was the missing Windows Calendar, but Mozilla Sunbird was a quick and easy replacement. Be sure to export your calendar to import later. First impression is...I like very much, but time will tell.

A lot in the geek world like Windows 7 so much they are skipping Vista altogether. I still like my Mac right. If I had a Windows PC or had to get one, I'd make sure it was fully compatible with Win7 (not sure if I like the idea of running the apps in XP-Mode however)

I have been running windows 7 since beta. It is pretty solid. Kind of reminds me of a mix between OSX and Linux.
I always tell people that if you want to see cutting or bleeding edge technology look into the Linux world.
Most of the cool part of W7 has actually been around for a while. If you bench test W7 vs XP you will find some interesting things.
A lot of programs XP runs faster. W7 boots faster and in some sense runs faster. W7 does one thing very well and that is it can run a 64 bit system pretty well. My dual core 64 does a pretty good job.
