Does anyone use Open Office?
~I was looking for a free document program for my laptop and this one seems popular. Anything I should know before I download? Is it a simple Word type program?~

It's very simple and easy to use. It's funny you posted this because I just had to download Open Office two weeks ago because the new MacBooks they gave us at school didn't have Microsoft Office on it. We have it now, but for two weeks, I used Open Office and found it very user friendly.

OpenOffice another great product from Sun Microsystems (now Oracle). I have used it since 2002 and posted about it in the forums too!
Another alternative and you don't even need to install software...

OpenOffice fan and user here too. In fact, I wasn't sure where to allocate this week's giving until reading this thread. OpenOffice.org here my money comes!

Woohoo! I actually gave a bit more than planned since they're on the Euro.

I love love love OpenOffice! I was a Microsoft Office user forever but my new laptop didn't come with any software... I got OpenOffice and I never looked back. Even when I was working on other computers with MS Word I never touched it! It includes programs that are basically the same as Power Point, Excel, Access, and Word.

I've been using it on my Mac for over a year. It's very similar to Word and I havent' had any issues.

Microsoft office products do not play well with unix systems.
I have Office on the Mac and was trying to generate a csv file that I could import into a mysql database on frugalvillage server.
Needless to say it was a big waste of time. It added extra characters to the space and sometimes it adds extra spaces where it should not. I tried fixing it with Vi to no available. Office really Borked the file!
I remember Open Office being better playing on Microsoft platform. So I went ahead and download it on the MAC.
It works beautifully.
Now I hope Oracle will not mess it up now that they acquired Sun last year.
