How often do you maintain your computer?
My laptop is HP, I have used it for three years. But one week ago, i found that i pressed the power button on my computer and nothing happened. why my laptop wouldn't turn on? I had to repair it , then they showed me there's a cloud of dust in it, i couldn't believe that, so have you checked and cleaned your laptop? and how often?

It's a good idea not to open the computer case unless you know what you're doing. I'm pretty certain the dust was not the cause of your failure. More likely the switch broke. It's mechanical, switches break, especially on a 5 year old machine. Or your power supply died.

I clean my laptop once a month, though that's probably not enough. I have cats and the fur flies around here lol. So between fur and dust it gets quite dirty. Did you have anti-virus and anti-spyware programs on it, and did you keep them updated and run scans fairly frequently? If not, it might have been a virus. 3 years is kinda early for a laptop to quit working, completely.

I run a cleaner program and a malware program every week. I blow out my keyboard every couple of weeks and defrag once a month. I eat at my laptop so the keyboard gets crumbs and dog hair under the keys....that canned air really helps.

Dh works for HP so thats his job to crack the case. I use a wide paint brush to clean between the keys as we have cats too. As far as internally every once in a while it get slow and the kids clear it for me. We also have auto scans too.
3 years is about the life unless you are handy and KNOW what your doing.

I don't have a laptop but I open the case on my desktop and blow it out every few months with my old Rainbow vacuum cleaner. The dust flies like crazy when I do this and if you don't keep your ethernet card clean you can't get online with DSL.I run a scan on it every 3 days with ccleaner too.

My computer doesn't attract much dust anymore, so I haven't cleaned it out in about a year. As far as software cleaning, I do it whenever I think about it, maybe every couple of months.

We clean the comp with a air compressor. Wow it sure was dirty when we did it last. I we do a run on the computer nightly. We never shut the computer down. Reason being i have read several places that turning it on and off every day adds alot of wear and tear to it. Must be true because my computer downstairs was bought in 2004 and still woking fine with a up grade to xp. I have gone through 2 lap tops since then. When i close my lap top it shuts down on ita own.
