Exclamation This stupid Blaster virus - please explain

Okay, first how does one get this virus. Does it come the same way as other virus's do, through e-mail or can you get it any other way?

Second, it says it does not affect Windows 98. Does it?

Third, can you get it by opening up pictures at a website you visit? May sound like a stupid question, but I want to know about this worm and I'm computer illiterate!!!

How can one turn off their e-mail account if they suspect a worm is coming in through their e-mail or can they?

Another question in regards to this. I got on here first thing this morning as I always do. I opened a thread with a picture in it, it went to a blank page and then I could no longer get on here. Please explain what happens when this happens.

CJ, the way I understand this is that you get this "WORM" simply from being online. The news explained it like this. It is like a heat seeking device, only a hole seeking device. If you dont have the holes patched, it enters through them and gets into your computer, it just comes through the internet, not through a particular website. Since I have dsl and am virtually always online, I have been shutting down when not in use, so that I am not just a sitting duck.

    security patch:

    Windows Updates

    Scan:

    Removal:

That's all I can tell you. Be sure to reboot after doing each one.
If you don't patch you can get reinfected. If you don't update, same thing.

I can't stress enough to always update windows, download patches, and keep virus software up to date.
If a person hasn't updated windows...it could take hours to do the download, but it's crucial to do it.

I don't know if this is the answer to everyone, but is for many.
