    Default I need computer help!

I don't know if this is the right place to ask - but here I am anyway

I used to have a laptop which (apparently) was quite fast, (I'm useless at knowing all that ram etc. stuff ) Anyway it got SO slow and I couldn't sort it out I sold it LOL.

The guy that bought it said it was a mess LOL but he could sort it out

So I've bought a 'normal' computer that is even faster than the last one.

I've had it about 4 months and now it's SOOOOO slow I may as well wind it up! Literally It is SO SLOW that is becoming almost impossible to use!!!

I've emptied the recycle bin, deleted the cookies, cleaned it all up all to no effect at ALL.

The ONLY thing that's changed since it slowed up is I unplugged it and moved it to a different place in the house.

I've checked it's all plugged in again properly and all the cables are connected.

What have I done to it???

I don't download things excessively either.

I'm so MAD that I nearly hit it tonight but I figured that probably wouldn't help (at the last minute) so I swore at it instead, but that didn't help either.

    WHAT CAN I DO????

aye run scan disk and defrag on a regular basis.
    (once a week)
How much free space do you have on the computer?
How many applications are you running when it bogs down?
And would you mind me telling me how much ram you have?
If your running windows xp I recommend at least 512 SDRAM or 256 DRAM.

answer these questions and I might have a few answers to help you out.

    Regards,

    Gabe

I can see this will be hard work LOL LOL.

I don't know how to run scan disk BUT it runs itself quite regulary. I defraged last night but it doesn't seem to have helped alot. I will start doing this more often though as I have NEVER done it yet - and I didn't do it with the last PC either and I do use my PC excessively LOL.

I sometimes run lots of things at the same time, but I know that can cause a problem so since it's been playing up sometimes I only have the thing I'm actually using running - but still no improvement???

As for the spare space and RAM - can you tell me where to find the info - or I don't know??? LMAO! I use my PC like my car - I know where the petrol goes and that's IT!

Oh how clever am I? (Well I hope so anyway LOL)

I found this info on my PC - hope it's what you wanted to know, because it means nothing to me?

    AMD Athlon (tm) XP 1800+
    1.49 GHz
    224 MB of Ram

    Total size 38.2 GB
    Free Space 28.9 GB

    Is that right

    yup that sounds good...

ok...if you have 224 of ram...you have an integrated video card on your mother board that uses your physical ram for video memory... This shouldnt affect much.,..

    -quick easy fix:
Buy a 256 or 512 RAM chip for motherboard.
You will need to know if it's sdram or ddr.

How good is your husband with computers?
Installing ram is the easiest thing to do.

Open up the box. And put the chip right beside the other chip that is there.

Make sure you have it aligned right.

Bingo. Close the box. Reboot...and you have your extra ram.
