Computer error mssgs
Does anyone here have enough computer experience that they might be able to help me solve a problem with my laptop?
After booting it, usually immediately I will get a blue screen (I know, the infamous blue screen, but I still have hope
), and an error mssg. The error mssg is always different, though does seem to repeat.
I had my daughter look at it and she couldn't figure it out, which has led us to believe we need a new laptop, but I hate to give up! It is a Dell and was not cheap, I have had it about a year and a half and had the motherboard replaced (at Dell's expense) about 6 months ago.
I NEED my laptop...I can't seem to kick the boys off the desktop long enough to check the email even, between the two of them...and I have some ebaying and frugaling to do!!!
Thanks anyone who has ANY suggestions!

BVlue screens, as you know, are never a good thing.
You are going to need to write down those error messages. Then you can google them or post them on a technical help forum.
Can you ever get past that blue screen? Have you tried to start in safe mode? If you can, I would try to get any files off that computer ASAP- I didn't back up my files soon enough on my last computer and lost all my music and pictures of my DD from summer through fall (those are the only things I cared about on there....)

Can't always get into safe mode either
My daughter had it running for about 3 hours with no problems but didn't back anything up, there really isn't anything important on it, we just use it basically as a second computer and for ME to be able to get online.
SO says we can get a new one with income tax but I don't want to use that much money for something that really isn't necessary when we have so much other stuff weighing us down!
Thanks Kimberly, I will boot it and write down the codes again. I'll try to check them out and post them on the Tech Board too, this afternoon.

What platform are you running? I highly doubt a system recovery will help the problem (in my limited experience, the blue error screen is usually something physical) but you could always try anyway- shouldn't make things worse, in any case.

I'd try a system recovery, too. The computer should've come with a restore disk. It will take a bit of time & you'll lose all of your files, but as long as it's only software problem, it'll fix it.......no need for a new computer.

Thanks for your replies...
Warranty has run out...should've bought extended one in this case I guess, but couldn't seem to justify the cost
It is Windows XP Office, and I do have all the disks, so will try all that...just got up from napping with the little one and fixing supper...

Thanks all, I'm up and running at the moment...we'll see how long that lasts! I've deleted some stuff that goodness only knows what the heck it was. Tried to reinstall but got another error and couldn't complete it...say a little thrifty prayer and hopefully it will recover! LOL

Hope the problem is solved and that you don't get that dreaded Blue Screen of Death (as we refer to it) anymore.
