I went to the grocery this weekend and was armed with my coupons, sales flyer, etc. I usually get at least 50% savings during my trips and thought this time was going to be significantly more because I had a few free coupons and a few more high value ones. Well, after noticing an unadvertised special on chicken and loading up on some produce, I ended up with a pitiful 40.51% ($54.44). I was really disappointed. I felt a little better when I reminded myself that I hadn't even done any grocery shopping for two weeks, but still....
I always feel good even if it's a dollar off as that's a dollar that is working for me. A dollar saved is dollar earned and I need everyone of them! You did a great job!

Thanks for nudging me back to the right perspective. I do need to remember that the most important thing is the fact that I just put $54.44 back into my pocket. Thanks!
Oh I hear you! I love to get above 50% savings. But most of the time, I leave the store a little disappointed at not saving enough. Part of that is just, um, me because I'm never satisfied with anything I do, frugal or otherwise (I got a 98% on an exam and immediately flogged myself for the two missed points).
But I do the best I can. It's hard being single- there was a great sale on lettuce but I can only eat so much! And I rent, which doesn't leave me with much storage space, nor can I get an extra freezer. Coupons are helpful, but most of my savings come through store flyers as I don't really eat much processed food. Cooking is my hobby!
I did really good two weeks ago, so I'm hoping it evens out.
I can defintely relate here. I use coupons, shop the loss leaders (esp now that I am paying for food etc) and still would like to see my savings be a bit higher. *hugs* You and I will both get better at beating those grocery marts!!

I am happy with any savings that I can get. I usually don't purchase items with coupons unless I know that they are the absolute lowest or almost lowest that I can get them. This way I always know that I am getting the best price and that usually equals between 50-60% savings. Sometimes if I stock up on marked down meats, etc it throws this off but I am still okay with this because I am ultimately saving money.
