    Default Ungrateful Student

The other day I was at Ingles going through the cash register line. It was triple coupons - my first time and I was excited!

My total was $60 and after coupons I paid $26. A good aquaintance, who used to be a friend, was right behind me. Her jaw dropped when she saw the total go down as the coupons were scanned. She and her sil started asking me questions about it. Like where do you get all of those coupons? how do you organize them? do you end up buying stuff just because you have a coupon? So on and so forth.

The next day the friend calls me wanting some info. So I gave her a few sites to start with. The next day she calls for more info. When I start telling her how I go about couponing she listened for a bit and then said in a haughty tone " Well, couponing is not my life. I wouldn't want to spend hours getting coupons and organzing them. I have better things to do. If I was going to spend that much time on coupons I would just get a job and buy the things I need...."

Wow! I don't spend hours and hours, but it is a hobby for me. I felt a little hurt and disrespected. She is the one who came to me.....

She said she just wanted to take advantage on Ingles triples to stock up a bit. Well, she couldn't find enough coupons because she was starting from scratch. If she hadn't been so scathing in her remarks then I would have given her some of my coupons!!!!

She said "I don't care if something is free, I wouldn't want it if I don't use it. " I said "Thats the beauty of free - you can donate it to those in need.

Oh well, you can lead a horse to water.....

That is why she's an acquaintance not a good friend. She's a user and obviously lazy.

I've had a few of those. I think that she was hoping you would offer to do the job for her.

With that kind of attitude, she would have a hard time to keep a 'paying' job. She is lazy, but the worst thing is she insulted others who use coupons. Geesh!

New Leaf, I've BTDT, and that's why I asked my sweet hubby to stop bragging about me and my coupons to his workmates.

I admit that I do spend hours, but it sure beats spending my time away from my family at some job (if i could even find one), where my entire life and home would suffer. The beauty of it to me is that I ~DO~ consider it a job because the amt of my savings would easily equal a PT job in Walmart's, but I'm the "Big Boss Lady"...lol!
I set my hours, and I get back whatever it is I'm willing to put into it.

So just let yourself laugh a little at her everytime you watch that register reduce your bill in half (at least). And then SMILE wide knowing you're gonna be there when your family needs you!!

Forget about those naysayers. They're also still claiming that because we use coupons ALL our food is the boxed stuff. Yeah, I got teens here who love their frozen pizzas and chicken nuggets, but my fridge is also filled with yogurt, cheeses, eggs, and TONS of fresh veggies. Yeah, they'll eat ANYTHING/EVERYTHING....lol!

Be proud of yourself girl!! You're doing a great job and I'm thrilled for you!!

Theresa (who stands right next to ya)...ha!

PS- just what did she even ask for?

I met a mom from DS school days and she was smirking about my coupon box. By the end of the trip she was trying to see in the box. I showed her the $2.49 a # markdown of the organic beef. I gave her 2 of the 6. She met another friend in the store and didn't know me anymore again. I smiled and nodded as I passed her w/ my .45 whole pie. (8.99 clearanced to 1.99- coupon for $1.50= Blueberry goodness for 8). See ya users.
I would love to trade coupons w/ you anytime new leaf. Cheers.

I don't spend a lot of time but if I had more I would. Great job. I would probably say something if she calls you again. Why put up with that attitude.

Thanks everyone. I'm not sure what I would say if she calls again. I love helping people out, but I don't like being used or talked down to. I don't think she'll be calling any time soon.

NL - like the others said, she doesn't want to put forth the effort.

You did good - I couldn't have kept quiet. Would have had to make a comment back - I don't do snotty, judgmental, people!

Sorry this happened - will be interesting to see if you hear from her again - and what is said.

I'll let you know if I hear from her again. I just wish I had a come back - I'm not good "in the moment". I could tell her I've saved over $1000 in a year..... but really is that her business?

I guess I'll just be "too busy" to talk....

I favor hanging comments in that situation. I would say. "oh yea, I can understand how it could be too much for some people" It sounds like on the surface you are agreeing w/ her. later, it will sink in that you are calling her lazy or not bright enough.A lot of people feel threatened or guilty if others are up for more of a challenge than they are. They turn it back on the other person to excuse themselves. It's so annoying because what you are doing is not about her in the first place. Don't give her any of your free stuff. Just refer her to the super couponing sight if she calls again. Or say "Sorry Don't have time to help you couponing is my life.(insert drama here).lol

I think moving on like you are is best. Anyone who askes for help and then not only ignores teh advice, but gets rude needs help we can't give them.

I hate she was rude to you. I'll gladly trade with you anyday.

My guess is that this women was just naturally un-frugal and when she realized it takes work, she was no longer interested.

I've had my share of those too. It's also a waste of YOUR time explaining it to THEM. When people comment on me being a SAHM, I tell them that couponing has afforded me this great opportunity...etc. etc.

That was the last thing I said to someone about it lately. i just shrugged and said "I dunno. I saved $700. so far this year, and it's still January. I was walking away and I could just feel the question and surprise. I heard this little voice-"wow that's good". People just don't realize. My freezers and fridge can hardly close. I just gave the 4th cart of groc. away since oct. to lighthouse food pantry. I do also save more than a minimum wage job per month averaged. I like doing it. I have handed coupons to other couponers lately. I have a huge stockpile for emergencies. I am teaching my kids to be resourceful. What I am NOT going to do is let others ignorance stop me. Don't have time. This is how I help my family. I just got my DD Harijuku perfume for less than 1/2 price for valentines Day. People are offering to pay me for teaching them. So i may have found a moneymaker. New Leaf it's prob best to suffer fools in silence. Prob. shouldn't use me as a example. I live in a bit of a self entitlement area.

    speaking of which
    buy 4 sm. grands $1.09 and 2 cinnamon rolls 5ct. $1.09 Meijers
use double coupons for $2.60. And the Catalina machine will kick out a $4. coupon. Making a few cents and giving "free rolls" this week. Yum.
